Could I call a baby Wolfie in RL?

I'm 22 weeks pg with DC3. This is my first boy. Ever since I was pg with DD1 DH and I have had a running joke that if we had a boy we would call him Wolfie. Found out 2 weeks ago that this is indeed a boy, and the bump is now firmly called Wolfie. It was never meant to be serious, but the trouble is that I can't find a boy's name I like at all! Would Wolfie be so very bad, really, and if it is, what else might I like?

  1. It has to be a real name and not a nickname/shortening of a longer name
  2. I don't really like popular/mainstream names. DDs are Thea and Maia.
  3. My surname starts with V and ends with O so V names are out, as are names ending in O.

I like Rafe (but my neighbour has a little Rafe the same age as DD2), Felix (can't get away from the cat food), Finn (but is now v popular) and Conor (v close to my dog's name so would be confusing).

I know a baby Wolf, NN is Wolfie.

I don't love it personally but it suits the little boy and the family.

PrimalLass · 22/03/2014 15:08

It depends whether you will be offended by other people not liking it.

SauvignonBlanche · 22/03/2014 15:08

I know 2 Wolfies but they're both shortened versions of Wolfgang.

Not keen on Wolfgang. Maybe my brain just needs to time to calm down, become less hormonal and the perfect name will pop into my head.

I might be offended - I'm not very good at ignoring other people's opinions. Good point, Sauvignon. Will have to think about this.

Dsis suggested Howell, pronounced Howl, as an alternative.

Rufus?

Bowlersarm · 22/03/2014 15:23

It's great.

But if you aren't brave enough, I don't think a neighbour having a Rafe should make you discount it.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 22/03/2014 15:24

Love the name Wolfie. Prefer Wolfram to Wolfgang.

RiverTam · 22/03/2014 15:25

Wolfie is lovely, go for it!

RabbitPies · 22/03/2014 15:27

No. It's awful.

Bowlersarm · 22/03/2014 15:27

Howl....

It's what a Wolf does!

landoflostcontent · 22/03/2014 15:31

Wulfric?

specialsubject · 22/03/2014 15:32

Freedom for Tooting!!

but maybe everyone has forgotten now?

mmmmmchocolate · 22/03/2014 15:37

No but you could call a husky wolfie. Which is what I suggest.

tethersend · 22/03/2014 15:39

How about Foxy?

hellymelly · 22/03/2014 15:43

He could be Wilfred, nn Wolfie, but Wolf is fab if it suits him.

tshirtsuntan · 22/03/2014 15:46

He may end up with a mil who calls him foxy...Grin

tshirtsuntan · 22/03/2014 15:47

Ps I really like it as a name Smile

tshirtsuntan · 22/03/2014 15:47

Ooh and lots of x-posts!

catinbootz · 22/03/2014 15:48

I know a Wulfstan nn Wulfy. Very cool.

Latraviata · 22/03/2014 15:51

No you cannot saddle a child with the name Wolfie. It is the name of a dog. Wolfgang is not too horrible. Rafe or Rufus are very nice. Maia is actually a very mainstream name nowadays I think?
