I'm only 14+ weeks pregnant and obviously don't know the gender but I just cannot get this name out of my head.

Andrew. I especially love it written down.

I don't know any Andrew's under 40 although I'm not in the UK.

Your opinions most welcome.

There's an Andrew in DS1's Y2 class if that helps! Classic name, can't go wrong. Andrew/Andy/Drew ...

I'm in Scotland, quite a few young Andrews here. I quite like it.

I think it's a great name.

I would have liked to use it if either of the DDs had been boys but it's an ex-boyfriend's name!

It's funny, I had never even thought of it before but just can't shake it off. Such a strong name but has a simple flow IMO.
It's just that I think of a man and not a baby boy/young boy.

Bluechampagne I'm actually not a fan of shortening names. I wonder would it be inevitable that he would be Andy at school?
That's what happened to dh (similar name) and now in his mid 30's he is still correcting people and trying to fix it!

I know Andrews from 7m - 70+ years! including my brother.

I only know one boy called Andrew but I think it's timeless and classless. He's 9 and is still an Andrew, not Andy or Drew.

I know a grown up Andrew whose name hasn't been shortened either.

It's still in the UK top 50, isn't it? So there must be some boy Andrews around.

I like it a lot, although when I was expecting DS1 6 years ago I wouldn't contemplate it because I was working in a team full of Andy and Andrews. In particular I am not a fan of 'Andy' as a nn. From memory Andrew was somewhere between 80-100 in the baby name lists. In the last 6 years of being a parent I have come across just one little Andrew (SE England).

Traditionally, in some parts of Scotland, Andrew - very good name! - is pronounced 'Andra' (Ann-druh).
I agree with you that 'Andy' or 'Drew' are nothing like so nice as the whole name, but for some reason I quite like 'Andra' .

I know several adult Andrews that do not shorten their name

I also know one Andy and two Drews

It's better than the abundance of Callums Ethans and Rileys that seem to be about at the moment

I almost used it as a middle name for one of my boys, but didn't in the end as a different name worked better with the first name.

I was very pleased when DS2 chose Andrew as his confirmation name.

It makes me think of the dashing RAF pilot son in Foyle's War who went out with Honeysuckle Weeks.

I like Andrew. I normally would recommend not using a name you don't like the shortened version of, but I do know a few Andrews who are always Andrew, so you may not get Andy. Your DS himself, may prefer to call himself Andy though, which you will have no control over.

There are 4 Andrews in my family - was tempted if I had had a boy just for the confusion value! Ages from 34 to 60 something. I commented just the other day that I haven,t met a single Andrew in all the baby groups I've been to - you'll be setting a trend, and it's a nice name too!

I know a baby Andrew and four adult Andrews that don't shorten the name so it's not inevitable. I like it but really dislike Andy and I'm not sure I'd want to risk the possibility of him deciding he preferred it.

I don't think it's timeless or classic. It's ultra 1970's.

I like it a lot. Even shortened to Andy (reminds me of Toy Story), or Drew - just as long as your surname isn't Peacock!

DH is an Andrew. Never shortened, but that may be because he had his surname as a nickname.

I think it's classic, and simple.

You can't go wrong. Dislike Andy, but Andrew is great.

It's my dad's name and he's lovely, so I like it :) considering it as a middle name for our boy.
