Ridiculous reasons for rejecting names

Anyone else fighting against this level of insanity? We're both teachers so hundreds of names have already been blighted by having taught so many spirited darlings.

Madeleine- "She'll be fat, Maddie is a fat name".

I'm with your DH on Esther, sorry.
But my DH vetoed virtually every boy's name known to the English people on the grounds that either he knew someone of that name who was mean to him and didn't want to be reminded of a horrible person, or knew someone of that name who he liked and didn't want to be confused by knowing an older and younger person of the same name. it was exasperating.

So many- Georgiana 'sounds like a princess name'
Henry 'don't like names starting with a h'
Abigail 'don't like the Gail part'
Arthur 'fowler'
Kitty 'she'll get teased'
And million more

Could be worse - my friend's DH rejected 'Francesca' because she might be known as Wanky Franky. Er, no.

DH and I are both science teachers. Sorry, I agree with your DH about both of them. And he doesn't need a reason, anyway.

I'd rather he just said he didn't like a name. He's reluctant anyway to discuss names until we know the gender - it's more 'efficient' that way. I am married to a chuffing Vulcan :)

My parents would say (they did say to my sister when she was expecting):
-- somebody in prison
-- somebody a prostitute
-- somebody retarded (nice way to call a person with learning difficulties)

My DH grew up on a farm.
We had no problem agreeing on boys names. Girls were a nightmare, as everything I suggested he would say 'that's a cows name' 'that's a chicken's name', and I'm not talking Daisy and Clover here, I'm talking Harriet, Felicity, Lydia, Louise etc. How are they cow's names?!

My DH rejected just about every boy's name (other than his own) possible on the grounds that:

a) he used to know a - who was horrible; or
b) it sounds too girly; or
c) it is too old-fashioned / modern

I found picking a boy's name very very painful.

My dp rejected the babe I wanted because we knew a dog with that name.

She was a wonderful dog really do not see the problem :(

A friend's DH rejected Imogen because it is, "a page 3 name."

DH rejected names as "too posh and we are not posh".

Kitty: "sounds like a burlesque dancer"!

Oh my dh had a million reasons to hate all my suggestions! But then I hated most of his although my reasons for hating his were perfectly legitimate - they were all ridiculous. I've no idea how we finally agreed to name two children!

Louis- DH "it's like Loo wee......"

Well that's it. So I can't have a daughter called that because I used to know one when I was young.

Every single name fell in to one category or the other.

Elsa - "my mum used to have a friend years ago who had a dog called Elsa".
Asa - "it stands for Automated System Accept at work"

My 2 favourite names for DC2.

At least they are being straight forward aboug names they dont like. I was getting frustrated with my DH rejecting most names for what I thought were ridiculous reasons until he pointed out that I won't be straight out honest when I don't like a name but just do an "I'll think about it" or a "maybe". It gets his hopes up and it is just as frustrating for him.
And as someone has said before, he doesn't really need a reason for rejecting a name. Some names we just font like

Felix- you can't name your son after cat food. Still love the name and meaning.

I don't think this is too ridiculous...but I've kind of rejected any middle names so far beginning with 'I' because her initials will be NIT.

...I think she may end up becoming NIT though. I'm really struggling.

Ruby - What is she can't say her R's?

Anastasia - Everyt ime I suggested it DH sing "I'm all out of love!" in a high pitched voice.

Ross - DH doesn't like the character Ross in friends.

Oh, and any name that someone else in the family might have, even if they are distant cousins living in a different country and we've never met them. When your DH has 36 cousins, it wipes out a lot of names.

I won't say the name but dm's response of "But that's a black kids' name" was pretty .
