Hi everyone,

It's my first time on here but really keen to hear your thoughts. We're expecting our first baby soon, not sure if it's a boy or a girl. We've got plenty of lovely girls names but stuck on boys names!

Our two favourites are...

Myles and Roscoe

If we have a boy we're wondering if we should call him Myles Roscoe or Roscoe Myles.

Any thoughts?

I quite like the name Roscoe. I don't see anything wrong with Myles either although agree that Miles is probably more popular.

TwosaCrowd · 06/03/2014 21:08

I used to ride a horse called Roscoe.

BellaOfTheBalls · 06/03/2014 21:12

Roaco

RabbitPies · 06/03/2014 21:13

Call him mules. It's a lovely name. Roscoe is awful.

RosaParksIsBack · 06/03/2014 21:14

Good name for a dog Grin

BellaOfTheBalls · 06/03/2014 21:14

Grrr fat fingers...

Roscoe has been the nickname of every boy named Ross I have ever known.

Myles is nice but the 'y' makes me cringe. It's Miles.

Milo is lovely. but DS2 is Milo so I'm biased

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 06/03/2014 21:16

No no don't call him Mules!

Call him KittenHeels Grin

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 06/03/2014 21:17

I listened to Midlake over and over when pregnant with DS1 and have often said he should have been called Roscoe. I love that song.

If he was a girl, then Christabel by Joan as Policewoman was up there...

DorothyGherkins · 06/03/2014 21:20

Little boy round here called Roscoe, about 8 yrs old. He seems happy enough!

callamia · 06/03/2014 21:20

Heh, doctorbrownbear, I know where you are! That's where i grew up (not ON the roundabout obv).

I like Myles with a y, and I think Roscoe is a little bit out-there, but if it's what you like, then I'm sure your son will be able to carry it off.

Chloerose75 · 06/03/2014 21:22

I have never heard of this dukes of hazard roscoe people are talking about! As a couple of pp said I think of the song roscoe by midland which I like. I think the name sounds quite nice and quirky, so not having this association that everyone else seems to have I would say yes I like it. I really like miles but only with I.

Chloerose75 · 06/03/2014 21:23

Mid lake not midland, autocorrect!

SimplySara · 06/03/2014 21:33

Well Roscoe might be a bit of a marmite name but it definitely has impact. look at the amount of posts on this already!

I quite like the names Roscoe, must be too young (but i'm not, I'm in my mid 30's) to get the Dukes of Hazard reference, nor do I associate it with a dog. For some reason the image of a rodeo clown pops into my mind - don't know why though. However, once the baby is born and people associate a cute bambino with the name all these other associations will go out the window.

Don't like the name Myles/Miles. I find it a bit stuffy (again, don't know why),

Dovahkiin · 06/03/2014 22:00

My friend named her DS Roscoe a few years ago. I think her DH bullied her into it after a very long labour Smile At first I thought it was the worst name in the worldand questioned her sanity but it now seems perfectly nice and normal. It's made me doubt whether any name can be considered inherently terrible, which does not sit well with my judgey pants Confused

justhayley · 06/03/2014 23:03

The very first boy I ever fancied was Roscoe - I was 10 and he was gorgeous lol. Prefer Roscoe Myles but guess it depends on your surname

Mireio · 07/03/2014 01:25

I think Myles Roscoe sounds better, although I prefer the spelling Miles.

TheZeeTeam · 07/03/2014 01:40

I quite like it! Definitely reminds me of the DofH, but, hey! I used to love that show!

LongTailedTit · 07/03/2014 01:45

I used to work with a Roscoe, great name, go for it.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 07/03/2014 10:23

I like both!

whippetwoman · 07/03/2014 13:19

I had a thread on Roscoe here a couple of years ago. Most people dissed and my DP didn't like it. He ended up as something else and I am happy with his name. Still think Roscoe is awesome though so go for it. Can't work out how to link to the old thread...

noddyholder · 07/03/2014 13:21

Really like it and thats what I would think just its a great name. I am always amazed at the over thinking that goes on wrt what other people name their children.

YouAreTalkingRubbish · 07/03/2014 13:26

Roscoe. Yes, nice, unusual but not weird

Miles. Yes, nice name

Myles. No, no, and triple no. It looks like its a girls name. (Myley)

Raxacoricofallapatorius · 07/03/2014 13:33

Roscoe is a brill name. I considered it. DD has a toy panda (female) and she is called Roscotina. Grin

ConferencePear · 07/03/2014 13:39

I'm not too keen on surnames for first names, but you like it .........

SirChenjin · 07/03/2014 13:47

Roscoe is a bit meh. Can't say I think much of it either way, other than it sounds like Rocco.

Myles is OKish too.

I really don't get these name threads (and yet still I post on them....Confused). If you like the name then use it (unless you're planning on calling them BJ-Lucifer or something, in which case best not)
