If we have a boy, we're thinking of calling him Roscoe...

Hi everyone,

It's my first time on here but really keen to hear your thoughts. We're expecting our first baby soon, not sure if it's a boy or a girl. We've got plenty of lovely girls names but stuck on boys names!

Our two favourites are...

Myles and Roscoe

If we have a boy we're wondering if we should call him Myles Roscoe or Roscoe Myles.

Any thoughts?

Nice name. That's what we called our beloved pooch.

MortaIWombat · 06/03/2014 13:11

I had a lovely pet rat once called Roscoe...

tammytoby · 06/03/2014 13:17

Roscoe is a great name! I prefer Roscoe Myles.

ToffeeJungle · 06/03/2014 13:20

Not keen on either, sorry.
Roscoe doesn't seem like a 'proper' name - maybe too american / 'slang' sounding?
And Myles is spelt Miles is it not?

squoosh · 06/03/2014 13:21

I really like Roscoe.

girliefriend · 06/03/2014 13:22

I like it but putting a Y in Miles is a bit annoying.

jazzyjenbo · 06/03/2014 13:23

My friends surname is Roscoe and her sons name is myles.
Myles Roscoe
So for me that would be the choice but Roscoe is and always will b a surname for me and not nearly as nice as some of the other surname as first names which have shot up in popularity. X

AvonCallingBarksdale · 06/03/2014 13:27

I like Myles, esp with that spelling, but Roscoe is just Roscoe P Coltrane Dukes of Hazard styleeee!

higgle · 06/03/2014 13:28

Yep, Roscoe is a dogs name. I think one of the rescues had a red Staffie called that recently.

squoosh · 06/03/2014 13:30

Roscoe is a name given to some dog's, as are Oscar, Max and Oliver. Doesn't mean humans can't also be given these names.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 06/03/2014 13:33

I love it. Never heard of a dog called Roscoe, just to counter some of the other posters!

It's a great balance of a real name (as opposed to made up) that is clearly a boy's name but still oscure enough to be interesting.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 06/03/2014 13:33

*obscure

laregina · 06/03/2014 13:36

I keep thinking of 'Cybil Roscoe' being said over and over again in a silly voice on a TV show years ago.

God knows what it is though. Or maybe I am just losing it Smile

tammytoby · 06/03/2014 13:37

I've also never met a dog (or other animal) named Roscoe. But I know many dogs called Oscar!

The benefit of using Myles as opposed to Miles it that there is no confusion with the metric Miles (Kilometres).

ShatnersBassoon · 06/03/2014 13:39

Rosco is an idiot with a basset hound.

Myles will spend his life correcting people's spelling of his name.

RonaldMcDonald · 06/03/2014 13:43

Dukes of Hazzard fans?

nemno · 06/03/2014 13:44

I'm usually a bit judgey about names but I quite like Roscoe, but I am old enough to only have the positive association with the tennis player Roscoe Tanner.

And here's the judgey bit; Miles with an 'i' please.

iseenodust · 06/03/2014 13:46

I like Roscoe and loved Dokes of H.
I know an adult Myles and have never heard him complain it causes spelling headaches.

ExcuseTypos · 06/03/2014 13:48

I like Roscoe.

I also like Myles rather than Miles. Miles is a measurement to me, rather than a name.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 06/03/2014 13:52

Ross reminds me of that over-sized kid in the outer hebrides on that sketch show. You know with the school with only one pupil (possibly for G&T)
Anyway, sorry I can't remember the name of it ... you know the one?

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 06/03/2014 13:54

Don't like Roscoe at all. In Ireland we were plagued by an evil kid's TV show called Bosco so the rhyme puts me off. Agree it sounds like a dog's name.

Milo or Miles is better than Myles.

I am quite judgy though, and am having a particularly judgy day today, so don't go by my opinion!

squoosh · 06/03/2014 14:02

Unexpected I met a Bosco once! Sadly he didn't have red woolly hair and a green and white striped smock.

I laughed inwardly. A lot! Grin

elQuintoConyo · 06/03/2014 14:08

Very cool.

Ignore the Dukes of Hazard/dogs' names naysayers.

According to some, we gave our son a dog's name. So far he hasn't woofed Grin

Now I think about it, I've never met a dog called son's name but I have met a hamster

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 06/03/2014 14:11

Oh God I've just looked up the wikipedia entry for Bosco. Apparently he's still alive! The evil bastard.

Mrsindecision · 06/03/2014 14:15

I know a young boy called Roscoe so I'm quite used to it as a little boy's name now. It's no more a dogs name than Oscar/Rex/Max IMO. Fwiw, I prefer the name Miles (spelt like that) to Roscoe so I vote for Miles Roscoe.
