Help in naming dd6 (dc10). I need opinions on some potential names .

we are expecting a girl in early July . she will be dd6 and dc10 .
Our shortlist include
Miranda lovely meaning but dh thinks it may be too associated with Miranda Hart
Clarissa
Winifred i love it for it's meaning but not sure if it's too clunky
Merewen love this especially it's meaning but is it too different
Cecilia
Hester

i really like the names Hester and Winifred but our surname is Westw**d .

so the question is could Hester Westw*d work or is the fact that it rhymes a real issue.?We've already discounted Esther for dd5 as we felt Esther Westw*d might sound to like a compass reference .

likewise is Winifred Westw**d OK or is the alliteration too much ?

dh has also suggested the name Mirabel but we have an Arabella .would Arabella and Mirabel be to samey for siblings ?

I also love the name Cecilia but we had major naming issues last time round dh initially agreeing to Cecilia but then changing his mind at the last minute and insisting on a name i really disliked but agreeing to cecily as a mn . In the end we changed dd5's name when she was a few months old to a compromise name .So i'm not sure whether i should avoid Cecilia as i don't want to open up any past hurts iyswim .

Your opinions would be welcome as i'm not sure if i'm over thinking some of these issues .

wow, you guys may have inadvertently solved one of the mysteries about my grandmother's name (trivial).

oldbutnotpastit · 23/02/2014 17:16

"fatphase* we were like that with dd5 and in the end made the wrong decision changing to her mn when she was a few months old . Hence the reason i'm desperate to get it right this time . My own name is the shakespearean name beginning with R you mention which is why we caN't use Rosanna
Felicity is dd5's mn so a non starter

i really like Posy as a nn for Josephine

Romilly is nice but apark in dh's home down which is why he is not keen to use it .

Jemima would be my 1st choice but we have a niece with that name so really can't use it Sad

ds4 has suggested Dorothy .it has a lovely meaning which i like but prefer Dorothea nn Thea but dh said no . Theodora is also a favourite but too close to Tudor for us to use dh thinks
Cassandra i again would love to use feels it fits with the other names but dh thinks of Rodney's wife in only fools and horses

Petrova is nice and would honour dh's late father but is it too different ?
Greta was on a previous short list but dropped but not sure why .perhaps we should reinstate it .

lovely lovely names, 10, how great. A few suggestions -

Gwendoline (not that I'm biased)
Meredith
Myfanwy

Your dh seems to be very, um...can't think of an appropriate word - picky heavy on the vetoing Wink.

Why doesn't he compile a list of names he likes and you can go through that and see if any catch your eye.

Also, I don't see anything wrong with a mother called Rosalind having a daughter called Rosanna.

oldbutnotpastit · 23/02/2014 18:20

margot dh is very picky and that is an understatement but if i find a name i really like i have plenty of time to work on him and use all my powers of persuasion to change his mind Smile . he is slightly better than he was last time when he had a shortlist of one and refused to consider any alternatives .

Gwendoline is lovely and ui had it on my shortlist but dh had an ex girlfriend called qwen which doesn't bother me but does bother dh.

oldbutnotpastit · 24/02/2014 09:15

as we already have 2 dcs with names beginning with T have decided not to use Theodora as it might cause some confusion when receiving post etc
i'm less keen on Dorothea but do like it's nn potential so may add it into the list as an alternative to Theodora

I felt Merryn was more likely to pronounced in that way like Erin but beginning with M

I do like Josephine nn posy but worry it's too popular or an older ladies name .
There are so many beautiful names it's really hard to choose
