And not even all that recently. I'm not really interested in celebrity culture and don't pay much attention to soaps or chart music - it's not that I'm dead old, just that I'd rather read a book! Anyway, I'm due next Saturday and have pretty much decided on a name. Foolishly, I googled it to see how popular it was and was surprised to see it moving up the charts. I then found out it has been used in the past year by a rather famous person. Should I care? I'm not bothered about whether anyone but DH and me like the name, just worried it will look like we are celebrity wannabes!

I dont think that name is climbing due to Beyonce' using it. It is a part of the current trend of using that style of names many similar names are also going upward. If you look here on the name forum is is fairly often suggested.

It is pretty though and I doubt it will make top 25 so if you like it go for it.

Another sad sleb obsessed person here and I wouldn't associate it with beyonce.I really like the name Ivy.

LizLemongrass · 15/02/2014 17:07

I think that's fine because it's a normal name. Old lady chic category but you won't be the only one with an Ivy. My DD knows one age 11.

If it was something like Blue or Cruz or North, then I think it would be different.

I would never make the connection with Beyoncé... I think because it's a pretty normal name.

Like others have said, if you went for North, Harper or Princess Tiiami the celebrity connection would be much stronger.

Old lady chic- I like that! Or even Granny chic...names like Ethel, Mabel, Doris.
In fact, visit any geriatric ward in hospital and check out the female Christian names!
I digress

I have a friends who's daughter is called Ivy I didn't realise until this thread it was Beyonce's daughter's name

Davidhasselhoffstoecheese · 16/02/2014 08:46

It's a classic girls name, stop bring silly and use it

HoneyandRum · 16/02/2014 09:11

Just be aware it's zooming up the charts and will most likely be the new "Lily" i.e. massively overused. We've had lots of threads on here recently about Ivy and everyone loves it. It is a beautiful name but will definitely have a born in 2014-2024 stamp on it in future decades.

LoveUall · 16/02/2014 09:59

hiya, i know which name your talking about and its beautiful please dont let it put you off. It is getting popular but i dont think its anything to do with Beyonce think those sort of names in general are getting very popular. Its my sisters favourite at the moment :)

amandine07 · 16/02/2014 11:01

Just to add- honestly, if you like it just use it!
Does it matter if it's gaining in popularity or whether Beyoncé has used it?!

When choosing a name for our DS I was pretty set on a specific name, luckily other half was in agreement...it's quite popular but that didn't put us off as we love the name- that's all that mattered to us, not whether a celebrity had used it or where it was in the top 10/50/100 or whatever!

Go on, if you love it, use it! Grin

sebsmummy1 · 16/02/2014 11:05

It's a lovely name and I wouldn't associate it with any celebs so don't worry xx

Loveyouthree · 17/02/2014 18:49

Love that name. Use it for me OP! (DP said no :()

Britishseamonkey · 19/02/2014 22:13

I dont even think beyonce is responsible for it's (slight) rise in popularity! Names of that ilk ( dare I say'theme' iykwim- don't want to be specific so can protect your anonymity!) are on the rise but that one is a lesser used one anyway. It's lovely lovely lovely!
