Celeb has used my baby name!

And not even all that recently. I'm not really interested in celebrity culture and don't pay much attention to soaps or chart music - it's not that I'm dead old, just that I'd rather read a book! Anyway, I'm due next Saturday and have pretty much decided on a name. Foolishly, I googled it to see how popular it was and was surprised to see it moving up the charts. I then found out it has been used in the past year by a rather famous person. Should I care? I'm not bothered about whether anyone but DH and me like the name, just worried it will look like we are celebrity wannabes!

Yes, thank you clue. My DH had to point out the Corrie connection. That's how out of touch I am! She was the one with the trout pout wasn't she? Anyway, feel confident that's the name we're using. Thanks.

I would definitely go ahead!!!! I knew the name without googling but I definitely wouldn't make the connection.
Lovely name too Grin

givemeaclue · 14/02/2014 12:56

No! that's Gail.
But only old glimmers like me would think corrie. Young hip people wouldnt

LittleWhiteWolf · 14/02/2014 13:01

Its a beautiful name and no-one will connect it with Beyoncé/Jay-Z.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/02/2014 13:02

I had to google, wouldn't have had a clue. Corrie here too, but I am in my mid 40s. Yes, trout pout, but it was a long time ago. And I agree, if it was a name like Suri that really is only associated with one person (to most people in the UK anyway) then maybe not, but a traditional classic name like this not a problem.

notso · 14/02/2014 13:06

Oh I love that name, had to Google Beyoncé's baby.
It's not like your calling her Apple, North, Lourdes or Harper.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 14/02/2014 13:06

Would agree that that one's totally fine. I did know what it was but would not associate it with them, it's too traditional and established a name iyswim. And it's lovely! Definitely use it.

HappyMummyOfOne · 14/02/2014 13:06

Would never have made the connection to Beyonce, my first thought was of a batman character! I dont watch soaps or read many mags to recognise celeb names.

Bahhhhhumbug · 14/02/2014 13:13

My DD now in her thirties was given a beautiful old Irish name barely heard of in the UK and when she was a baby I turned on tv to watch 'Home and Away' (very big at the time) and one of the main characters that had just come into the show was called my DDs name. I was gutted and predictably by the time she went to school it wasn't nearly as rare and other people presumed we had called her that because of the character on the soap as others had done. We lived on a large quite deprived housing estate at the time also and so more prone to people following celebrities leads in fashions, names etc.
But there still aren't all that many of them about it never became really 'common'. So am sure with your chosen name only being a celebrity's dds middle name it wont have that much impact on its popularity.

BetterWithCheese · 14/02/2014 13:17

I really wanted to call my 6 week old daughter that name but my DH wasn't that keen. I've loved it for years, it's a really great name and I wouldn't associate it with Beyoncé.

natandmat · 14/02/2014 13:21

Richard Bacon had a daughter last week and called her it! I love it, beautiful name!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 14/02/2014 13:43

I would think Corrie (but think that is lessening over time) and Poison. I wouldn't think of Beyonce or Richard Bacon (he's not exactly someone to emulate anyway).

LydiaLunches · 14/02/2014 13:49

All mine by coincidence share names with the daughters of celebs, no one has ever mentioned it. I think 3 separate celebrities have a daughter with DD2's name in fact!

Fairyloo · 14/02/2014 13:50

I love it

MuttonCadet · 14/02/2014 14:15

Definitely won't be associated, and a lovely name btw. Smile

FredFlintstonesSister · 14/02/2014 14:20

Thanks for all the positive comments. Now I just can't wait for her to get here!

Beyonce would be way down my list of associations with that name (love it btw). It's old enough and strong enough to withstand celebrity usage.

TheNumberfaker · 14/02/2014 14:36

Ha. It will be so appropriate when she's going through the terrible toddler years.
it's a lovely classic name.

DD3 has quite an uncommon name and there is a new cartoon coming soon and the main character has the same name. She is quite pleased about. I think it's rare to find a name that hasn't been used by someone or that might crop up somewhere in the future. Yours is a lovely name choice, go for it!

FredFlintstonesSister · 14/02/2014 14:43

I forgot about the Beano connection! I love it! Gonna get me a tshirt now!

MauriceMinor · 15/02/2014 01:51

I would never have connected it to Boncey. If the name was Apple or Lourdes or North then it would be different but that name doesn't "belong" to anyone in my mind. Except possibly the Corrie character...does that bother you? I doubt anyone under 30 would make the connection though.

Are you set on it?

Littleturkish · 15/02/2014 07:44

I hate to say this but feel I must.

I've been set on Ivy for a name since I was a teen as it's my grandmother's name.

I was gutted when Beyoncé used it.

We went ahead and used it anyway, but double barreled it with a flower name (but Ivy is first) to please the H as he wanted to include a family name on it.

I would say when telling young people (I teach secondary) I get the Beyoncé comment 7/10 times. Adults never make the connection.

It annoys me, but only a tiny amount as I love the name. I'm still pretty certain she'll be the only one in her class.

Ham69 · 15/02/2014 08:55

Well I love Corrie and had forgotten about Ivy Tilsley until it was pointed out on here. She's long gone and not as famous as Elsie Tanner but that hasn't bothered all of the parents of little Elsies! I wouldn't worry at all about the Beyonce thing. Not even her DD's first name. Ivy is a gorgeous name. Go for it and good luck.
