Hello

DH and are are really struggling on boys names.

We seem to be getting somewhere with:
Jimmy Logan
Jimmy Jensen

What are your initial thoughts on Jimmy? What type of person do you picture?

I'm keen on Jensen as then there is always the option of JJ if I can convince DH to let me use that in the next few months!
(DH is very traditional - so extremely likely birth certificate would be James. I'm aware of many peoples extreme dislike for predetermined nicknames - but ideally I don't want to get into that debate now! Smile)

In case it helps:
DH loves traditional boring names. Not at all worried about popularity.
I love surnamey names/less popular names.

This doesn't suit either of our criteria but is starting to look like the beginning of a compromise! Grin

Love it

redrubyindigo · 13/02/2014 20:50

Jimmy Saville . Sorry.

Fishandjam · 13/02/2014 20:53

Why not James? You can nickname him Jimmy but then it still passes the High Court Judge/FTSE100 test.

Fishandjam · 13/02/2014 20:54

Oops, sorry, I see you've already thought of that Blush

jaykay987 · 13/02/2014 20:57

redruby - yes I wanted to see if that came out a lot.

I hadn't even thought about it until about an hour ago - and tbh was one of the reasons for posting.

Only I keep thinking....people call their children David (Shipman) and Fred (West) without issue. So do you think itll just be a current thing and will dye down overtime?

Especially if we have James on birth certificate?

No - it makes me think of stupid Scottish men Sad

littlebluedog12 · 13/02/2014 21:00

I love Jimmy- it was on our list for if one of the DDs had been a boy, as DH's grandad was a Jim. I wouldn't worry about the Jimmy Saville thing honestly, it certainly never occured to me.

MillyONaire · 13/02/2014 21:03

I know a Jimmy - dd's age (10). Cool name for a cool boy - love it and would never ever have thought of J Savile.

SecretRed · 13/02/2014 21:14

Cute. I like it.

LexieSinclair · 13/02/2014 21:16

Really dislike sorry. "See you Jimmy!" Is all it makes me think of. And Saville. Not great.

Madmammy83 · 13/02/2014 21:23

Jimmy Logan sounds like the name of a snooker player from the seventies.

Actually wouldn't have thought of Jimmy Saville.

insanityscatching · 13/02/2014 21:27

Ds has a friend Jimmy (24), he's a bit of a lovable rogue with a big grin and twinkly eyes so I immediately think of him. It's not a name I'd choose but ds's friend wouldn't put me off the name.

JazzTheDog · 13/02/2014 21:31

I have a Jimmy who is 8 (his birth cert says James), it's a fab name!

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/02/2014 21:32

Makes me think of;

Riddle (rhyming slang for piddle)
Saville.

MauriceMinor · 13/02/2014 21:37

It was Harold Shipman, not David.

To me it's very odd. Sounds like an old codger's name, and not in a grandad-chic kind of way.

Jimmy Logan sound like a

Casmama · 13/02/2014 21:37

I think you mean Harold (Shipman)
I'm Scottish and jimmy makes me think of old men or Jimmy Saville- why not go with James?

MauriceMinor · 13/02/2014 21:38

...wait for it...an old Irish man signing in the pub.

TheNumberfaker · 13/02/2014 21:41

Have James on the birth certificate and then you have the glorious choice of James, Jimmy, Jim, Jamie.

nkf · 13/02/2014 21:43

Nickname for James. Jimmy Crack Corn. Jimmy Connor. James so much nicer a name.

Edinbugger · 13/02/2014 21:47

Love it. You do know that Jimmy Logan was a legendary Scottish entertainer. (Google him).
