Hello

DH and are are really struggling on boys names.

We seem to be getting somewhere with:
Jimmy Logan
Jimmy Jensen

What are your initial thoughts on Jimmy? What type of person do you picture?

I'm keen on Jensen as then there is always the option of JJ if I can convince DH to let me use that in the next few months!
(DH is very traditional - so extremely likely birth certificate would be James. I'm aware of many peoples extreme dislike for predetermined nicknames - but ideally I don't want to get into that debate now! Smile)

In case it helps:
DH loves traditional boring names. Not at all worried about popularity.
I love surnamey names/less popular names.

This doesn't suit either of our criteria but is starting to look like the beginning of a compromise! Grin

I think of Saville now, but give it a few years and no-one will make that connection. If you like it, go with it.

Mrspedro · 13/02/2014 22:00

Love love love Jimmy

Katekate77 · 13/02/2014 22:01

I know two people called Jimmy. A 39 year old and a 2 year old. Both suit the name very well.

Go for it!! Smile

CheeseStrawWars · 13/02/2014 22:04

If he's called Jimmy he will likely get Jim and Jimbo as nicknames. Are you equally happy with those?

You could go for the Jimi (as in Hendrix) variant spelling.

DorothyGherkins · 13/02/2014 22:05

We had a naughty poodle called Jimmy.

Edinbugger · 13/02/2014 22:10

Actually I like Jimbo even better! :)

Bowlersarm · 13/02/2014 22:12

Love it.

BabyMummy29 · 13/02/2014 22:13

Jimbo sounds like Jumbo so makes me think of elephants

starlight1234 · 13/02/2014 22:17

I read title of the thread and thought Jimmy Saville... I do think you are wise to think about nick names...I hate my DS's name shortened by his mates...

justhayley · 13/02/2014 22:20

Saville.... Sorry. Although that may change in a few years

BobaFetaCheese · 13/02/2014 22:24

Saville.

Tarbuck, I then had to google to make sure I didn't make up Jimmy Tarbuck.

I think James/Jimmy Logan sounds nicer than Jimmy Jensen (although I'm not a fan of Mr.Button) Grin

BananaPie · 13/02/2014 22:25

I like it (but definitely put James on the birth cert). I didn't think of Savile, although that may be because I thought his name was Jim'll (as in Jim'll fix it) for most of my childhood.

DorothyBastard · 13/02/2014 22:25

Saville

roadwalker · 13/02/2014 22:26

Osmond, showing my age

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 13/02/2014 22:27

What do I picture for a Jimmy?

Saville
Osmond
Jimmy from Emmerdale (dodgy ears and very thick)
As for Jimmy Jensen, just don't.

FriedSprout · 13/02/2014 22:27

Saville, and 'See you Jimmy"

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 13/02/2014 22:36

Jimmy Jensen sounds like a ceebeebies show

gilliangoof · 13/02/2014 22:37

Jimmy is good. Go for it.

OutragedFromLeeds · 13/02/2014 22:38

I really don't like it.

My first thought was Saville.

Second thought was the slang for wee.

James is really nice though. I quite like JJ as well.

Mrswellyboot · 13/02/2014 22:38

It's gorgeous.

We have a similar traditional name for our son and I love the nickname roe it. Though we use the full name and will leave him and his friends decide (sometimes when I am talking to him I use his nickname and like jimmy it is so cute )

Mrswellyboot · 13/02/2014 22:39

Nickname for it

parques · 13/02/2014 22:40

Corkhill (Brookside!)

jaykay987 · 13/02/2014 23:08

thanks for the feedback. looks fairly split. not as negative as I feared!

David Shipman?! what was I thinking? sorry - clearly baby brain has kicked in early! Grin

Saville firstly, and otherwise, it sounds kind of dated to me.

DitsyDonkey · 14/02/2014 10:26

Beyond awful
