Likewise, my DD's name has been mentioned, and I definitely don't think of it as girly or sweet. To me, it's classic and elegant and strong.

ZingSweetApple · 08/02/2014 05:54

none, all kids are monsters!Grin

I dunno, I guess Suzie.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 08/02/2014 08:44

Lizlemon-
"professional happy confident women though"

I have worked in business for many years- the idea of being "sweet" and "girly" these "prefessional" traits don't get you very far in the business world I can assure you.

Sophie
Katie
Anna
Julia

The OP does explain later that her DD is "a stunning girl is also not a girly girl at all spent the first 5 years of her life naked in only weeklies digging up the garden and clubbing trees!!!!"

She also mentioned that she nearly named her DD Lucy and then changed her mind, and that all the Lucy and Alices she knows are "girly" so I think this more about whether the traits go with the names.

honeybeeridiculous · 08/02/2014 09:54

I always think freya is a pretty name, conjours up a delicate, blonde whispy haired, sweet natured little girl Grin

Showy · 08/02/2014 09:58

It's funny how we perceive names isn't it? My dd's name is mentioned on here a couple of times. It means 'mighty in battle' and is the name of a British infantry tank. We chose it for lots of reasons but I like strong names for girls. It's strange to hear it described as delicate, sweet or pretty. One of my favourite pictures of dd is her in wellies, muddy knees and flyaway hair, standing proudly (thumbs up, grinning) in front of the tank she is named after. It couldn't capture her name better as pictures go. Her nickname, incidentally, is 'The Tank'. She is a rugby playing, mud loving, superhero adoring, strong, determined Tank. She's great and striking in her own way. Pretty and sweet she is NOT.

Im no advocat for deliberately giving somebody a sweet girly name! [Confused]
Just making the point that a name that some on this thread saw as sweet and pretty, i saw it as traditional, simple, elegant.
Worked "in business" myself for years. People rarely match their names if u think about it.

LizLemonOnskerAtGaTilKobenhavn · 08/02/2014 11:30

Zingsweetapple! I agree! My kids should be called stroppy monster and awkward monster.

EmpressOfTheWellOfLostPlots · 08/02/2014 12:23

If your Tank's name is what I think it is, Showy, she also has some pretty cool role models!

Showy · 08/02/2014 13:14

Empress, I swore growing up that I would name my child after the eponymous protagonist of my favourite book. That name also happens to belong to the aforementioned tank and several queens (one current) have all borne the name.

EmpressOfTheWellOfLostPlots · 08/02/2014 13:28

AND an empress Grin.

Showy · 08/02/2014 14:18

But of course. Grin All the best people have Empress as a title don't they?

Mintymoomoo · 08/02/2014 14:44

Lottystar thank you, you totally understand where I'm coming from, I'm not expecting my daughter to be a "sweet pretty girly girl" I was just asking what names in ithers personal experiance make them think of a pretty feminine girly girl, as stated in my post I always think of Lucy (a name I love) because all the Lucy's I know are beautiful kind lovely people (and also dam successful in there own right and I certainly don't think they will have any trouble with "voting")

Thank you to all that just replied giving your views, just a shame there is always "someone" who wants to come on all acting all high and mighty and taking the post totally the wrong way

Lola is the exact opposite though to me

(it's been discussed on here before, apparently I am showing my age)

LizLemonOnskerAtGaTilKobenhavn · 08/02/2014 16:47

Lola is trampy. The name that is. Not little girls. V odd choice imo but nowt so strange as folk

EmpressOfTheWellOfLostPlots · 08/02/2014 16:51

Fashions change though, Liz. Kids today have never heard of Lola the showgirl, they go straight to Lauren Child.

wifeandmotherandlotsofother · 08/02/2014 16:52

My younger daughter is called Lucy Abigail, she was a beautiful girly girl when she was a child. She is now 17 and girly girl wouldn't be words I would use to describe her, gin inducing would be though!

LizLemonOnskerAtGaTilKobenhavn · 08/02/2014 16:54

Yeh. Just as well. Not saying children have a cross to bear! It's just an odd choice, when there are so many names. Would u choose something that even SOMEpeople view as trampy!!? But hey ho.
