What do you think about name Lushia or Luschia ? (Latin origin and pronounced as looo-shya) so far, me and my partner seem to be the only ones that really like it...:) What do you think?

I don't like those two but I like Lucia.

Marsidarsi6 · 24/01/2014 18:24

Thanks everyone for honest opinions, shame so negative ...I guess it's something for me to think about, I absolutely dislike Lucia, so the fact that majority of people thinks Lushia would be another mispronounced version of Lucia is a big Noooo no!

Thank you, it's nice to know that at least one person likes it:)

I would pronounce it as Lush - ee - a, as I'd assume that if it was supposed to be pronounced Looshia that it would be spelled Lucia.

Very annoying for your DD if you use it and will reflect badly on your intelligence, regardless of it being a 'proper' name, people will presume you just didn't check the spelling of Lucia.

It would be shortened to Lush which is one of those overused words that you either love or hate I hate

AndWhenYouGetThere · 24/01/2014 18:45

This is how I'd pronounce Lucia. It's either Loo Sha or Loo Chee A. Lushia looks wrongly spelled, or a made up name Luh Shee Ah. Go with Lucia.

Longdistance · 24/01/2014 18:53

Sorry, I think it sounds like Lucifer.

nevergoogle · 24/01/2014 18:56

Dreadful.

ExcuseTypos · 24/01/2014 19:02

I know a Lucia- it's pronounced Loo-chee-a

Love Lucia bit dislike Lushia

BabyMummy29 · 24/01/2014 19:09

Makes me think of loos or lush. Doesn't appeal to me, however Lucia is nice.

anothernumberone · 24/01/2014 19:14

I

anothernumberone · 24/01/2014 19:14

I also love Lucia. That is all I will say.

sublimecorpse · 24/01/2014 19:19

How about Louisha pronounced loo-ee-sha

NadiaWadia · 24/01/2014 19:44

Well what's wrong with Lucia? How can you dislike it so much, when it is almost identical to Lushia? Lucia looks much nicer written down. The 'lush' bit is a little unfortunate, you see. Unless the spelling you are giving does exist in some language?

There are several pronunications for Lucia, one being how you stated you would say Lushia. One is LOO-shya like the island St Lucia in the West Indies (I think that's the one you want). Then there's loo-CHEE-a (Italian), also loo-SEE-a (Spanish) and even loo-THEE-a (Castilian Spanish). I think.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 24/01/2014 19:45

Gert Lush... is what it makes me think of (west country)

NigellasDealer · 24/01/2014 19:46

it sounds like a vaginal infection or an alcoholic.
now Lucia on the other hand is lovely

Oh noooooo.

It's terrible.

Looks either made up or a misspelling.

GERRRRT LUUUUSH!

sleepingbeautiful · 24/01/2014 21:11

Makes me think lush or luscious, but in a lap dancer sort of way rather than a nice fruit salad. Sorry.

badtime · 25/01/2014 00:18

Nadia, you missed out the Slavic 'loot-see-a' pronunciation.

NadiaWadia · 25/01/2014 01:48

Oh, didn't know about that one!

squoosh · 25/01/2014 02:11

It's a bit exotic dancery, 'welcome to the stage Luscious Lushia'.

Pick Lucia instead and pronounce it Loo-shee-a.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 25/01/2014 08:49

I have a Lucia.

It can be pronounced

loo SEE ah
LOO sha
loo CHEE ah

Or if you go a bit exotic and spell it Luzia, then loo ZEE ah.

Are you going for loo SHY ah? Or LOOSH ya ? It is not clear from your post.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 25/01/2014 08:50

Sorry, didn't see nadia's post which explained the different pronounciations much better :D

Marsidarsi6 · 25/01/2014 11:56

I intended to pronounce Luschia as Looo-shya and no other way, which is why i do not want to spell it as Lucia as it is a very popular name with room for various pronounciations which is a big turn off for me and I trying to avoid. I will always prn Lucia as Looo- siiiya, as I am a Spanish speaker and thats NOT how i want my daughter to be called. I personally don't think pronouncing Luschia should create any confusion as there is simply no reason for it as it's pretty obvious? .I have seen name Luschia on Australian forum it had very positive reactions, and was told to be cool and quirky, so it's interesting to see that British public on the other hand absolutely hates it. I do realise that people are not fond of 'complicated' and made up spellings, however we live in a very multicultural society nowadays and unusual spellings will happen more often and not everyone wants to go for a 'well known and classy ' name and a different spelling does not have to mean that I'm a Chav trying to be cool and gangsta, or I'm an idiot and don't know how to spell properly but maybe because we're mixed nationalities couple and trying to meet in the middle and make sue people prn my child's name the way I want them to regardless of which country were in? But anyway, thanks for your opinions , I'm glad I have asked as I would have never thought this name will be so disliked and the spelling obviously seems to be an issue so I definitely have something to think about.

I think it sounds like St Lucia at best and the nickname 'Lush' is not one that's very nice for a small girl! (or even a big one)
