Ambrose, Idris or Remy

It's for DC3 who I think is a boy. Due very soon. DC1's name begins with A and DC2 begins with R. But I find Idris a bit harsh.

Please don't be horrible or rude.

Cheers...

Mr friend has a baby Idris. I think it's beautiful. She is Welsh though - I think it's an old Welsh name? Also makes me think of the lovely Mr Elba.

Remy - not keen, sorry.

Ambrose I like, it sounds very distinguished. But it does also make me think of the TV drama 'Funland' where the main character spends ages looking for 'Ambrose Chapel' and meets a bizarre taxidermist called Ambrose Chapfel...

AgathaPinchBottom · 15/01/2014 20:04

Love Ambrose and know a v cute Remy. Not sure about Idris.
Aubrey is also a nice name to consider if you like Ambrose.
Congratulations !

mrsbug · 15/01/2014 20:09

I like idris best

mrsgumpy · 15/01/2014 20:10

Ambrose is one of my husband's family names. They were Huguenot refugees to the East End after the Edict of Nantes. For that reason I think it is cool.

WeightyKaty · 15/01/2014 20:10

Idris is fab

Bowlersarm · 15/01/2014 20:11

Ambrose could be Brose = very cool.

bakingtins · 15/01/2014 20:11

Idris is the dragon from Ivor the Engine. Not necessarily a bad connotation but worth bearing in mind.
Remy= cognac

Does the 'same initial' thing bother you?

WeightyKaty · 15/01/2014 20:12

I think there is a mountain called Cader Idris in north Wales

shirleycat1 · 15/01/2014 20:13

I've not seen Funland but that made me laugh.

Not feeling Aubrey I'm afraid.

I'm not sure if Idris sounds a bit harsh and clunky.

Actually Eli is ,my absolute favorite but DPs DSis nicked it - well Elijah (which isn't even the same name and we chose it first) - and now DP has vetoed it!

Idris. It's used a lot in Morocco and I've come to really love it.

shirleycat1 · 15/01/2014 20:15

Re the same initial - not sure really. I don't want it to look like we're going for a theme. But then as DP said to me last night, we shouldn't choose a name on how it sounds with siblings names as that will only be relevant for a certain amount of years, so really we just need to consider it in it's own right. If you get what i mean...

Sharing a name with a dragon would be fine with me!

bakingtins · 15/01/2014 20:16

I like Eli. Isaac?

mrsannekins · 15/01/2014 20:16

Defo Idris

Skiingmaniac · 15/01/2014 20:19

Love Ambrose......my cat is called Ambrose as I'm not having any more DCs - his nickname is Amby. Thanks

shirleycat1 · 15/01/2014 20:21

After thinking Remy for months I think I am now erring towards Ambrose.

Name giving is very very hard...

JanetAndRoy · 15/01/2014 20:27

Idris isn't/wasn't Arthur. Idris was giant, and a king of early medieval Wales. Cader Idis means Idris's Chair.

DS2 was nearly Idris!

WhyMeWhyNot · 15/01/2014 20:30

I know 2 baby Idris.

shirleycat1 · 15/01/2014 20:33

Do you think about rice pudding or custard when you hear Ambrose?

OP posts:
milkingmachine1 · 15/01/2014 20:37

I know an Idris, Idi for short, which I think is cute.

LCHammer · 15/01/2014 20:38

For me, Ambrose was a pompous B&B owner in Somerset about 10 years ago.

How would you pronounce Idris? Eye-dris or Yi-dris or Ee-dris?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 15/01/2014 20:39

Yes! Ambrose = custard
Remy - cognac
Idris - Stringer Bell in the Wire! Wire fan here

So, Idris is the best!

shirleycat1 · 15/01/2014 20:40

Pronounce Id-ris I reckon. But it doesn't flow like I would like. Idris is probably my least favourite but it does sound nice with DC names. Not a good enough reason to pick it though...

I don't like Isis or Remy at all,but Ambrose is a wonderful name. Please use it.

LCHammer · 15/01/2014 20:52

Isis? :)
