My husband and I had been trying for a baby for a few years, after having IVF, we were lucky enough to fall pregnant the first time. We now have our beautiful baby boy.

My husband is half French half Italian and I am British. My husband has been adamant from the beginning that the babies first name go well in both English and French. I have not liked any of the names that he does and vice versa. My husbands middle name is Blaise which I love and would like to use as a first name but he would like to use it as a middle name. He really likes the Henry for a first name but I don't particularly like it. Now when I have said I wouldn't mind Blaise Henry at first he agreed, but after trying the name he has said he doesn't feel it works and want to us the name Blaise as a middle name to continue as a tradition. My father is welsh and I quite like names like Owen etc. but this won't work since he wants both French English sounding names. So where do I compromise? I have chosen the name blaise because, as he has requested goes well in both English and French, I like that it's unique and quite masculine. Please help, my son is now 8 days old

So it's his surname too even though you have kept yours? Him him him all the way and what you want is to be argued off the court?

I suggest that you ask him which he would prefer of the following two FAIR options:

Your surname, and he can pick the first name

His surname, and you can pick the first name.

...this with Blaise, HIS middle name, already a given.

I'd like to see what his reply would be, and whether he's enough of a tit to actually come out and say that he'd like HIS preferences and HIS family names to be the only ones considered, and you can go hang.

He's starting to sound a real catch OP. You know those threads that say why on earth don't women who have kept their names give THEIR surname to their children, because in the event of a split it's about 90% certain that they'll be the ones living with the children? Just mentioning it...

What about Dominic? That is French/English sounding? Dominic Blaise.
Or maybe Louis, Xavier, Lucas, Olivier, Oscar, Alexander/Alexandre, Lucien.

Sorry if I have done lots of repeats!

If he has picked surname and middle name then you should get to choose the first name, surely, or you are getting no input at all! This is what DP and I agreed when we had DD, he picked surname and gave her a family name from his side for her middle name so I got final say in first name

How about Phillipe or Charles?

Why couldn't a French person say Owen?! I'm French and have no trouble with it!! I always thought as long as you avoided the 'th' sound you're golden!
