Well i kinda like phoenix - not sure if i would be brave enough to use it.

spidermama · 26/07/2006 20:25

There are a few dinosaurs who get het up about uncommon names and feel the need to lash out.

They're a dying breed thank God and best ignored.

I think deep down they're angry because they feel hidebound by some strange force of tradition to follow their perception of an established norm like a bunch of sheep.

They lash out with jealous hatred against those of us who aren't similarly encumbered and mired in the past and are able to think for ourselves and choose names we like rather than the ones off the list of acceptables.

Poor things. They're to be pitied.

Xavielli · 26/07/2006 20:31

Well said.

jamiesam · 26/07/2006 20:41

Voted for Eve and John (have two boys but neither John as dh wouldn't agree )

Am EXTREMELY old myself, but wonder if you have hit the nail on the head with suggestion that it's us older folk who don't go with more uncommon names? Next time anyone rude on here, ask them how old they are

In the meantime, I'm mulling over asking for a Cod free topic and then the miserabilists who don't like anyone to have conversations that they don't like can just avoid them

fattiemumma · 26/07/2006 20:54

i added Elize as my fave. it was what i wanted to call DD but chickened out as thought it was too unusual and didn't want to have to defend the name for years to come. (its pronounced El-eez)

bubblez · 26/07/2006 21:02

Natty my friends dd is called Phoenix (although i prefer it for a boy)

I think that the unusual names are just as pretty as the more common names.

bubblez · 26/07/2006 21:07

I love you both

WantAbabyNOW · 27/07/2006 13:42

I added the name Cooper for a boy and my fav girl name is Olivia.

I think kids with the same names have very similar personalities. I can honestly say I have never met a sweet, well adjusted Christopher/ Chris!
( Apologies to anyone who has named their son this, but you would have to agree he is probably mighty spirited!)

Am a teacher so couldnt name kids after anyone who has given me grief!

bundle · 27/07/2006 13:43

kittywits · 27/07/2006 13:49

When I was pg I wanted to call my ds Cameron which I still really like....
