Irrational dislike of a name?

looki · 02/01/2014 10:25

I have an irrational dislike of the name Katie. I think its due to Katie being so commonly used where I live that when a name is announced, it is almost surprising if it doesn't contain the name Katie. Yet I quite like the name Kate/Cate.

Anybody else have dislike one name but like something very similar?

No I'm not! And she could have been nicer about my bright yellow hand knitted cardi when I was 7.

By put I'm prepared to let bygones be bygones.

I couldn't care less if anyone is offended. The thread specifically asked for "non positive" opinions.

I have an irrational dislike of the name Lucy. I don't know why I don't like it but I really don't!

I dislike the name Susan. It sounds so stodgy.

But Suzanne sounds much more elegant, and Susannah is quite bohemian-sounding.

I really dislike the name Gavin - a friend's son is called Gavin and I feel really bad about it but I've always disliked it.

Agree with Eleanor/Elinor, the latter is high up on my name list but I'd hate for people to think I named my DC Eleanor...

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/01/2014 23:41

I really like Ceri but dislike Kerry. Hmm

DramaAlpaca · 04/01/2014 23:55

I have a completely irrational dislike of the name Ellen. I think it's vile.

I also dislike all cutesy names for girls like Maisie, Daisy, Poppy... And I hate most of the old lady names that have been revived in recent years.

Also surnames as first names, especially for girls.

Actually, I think it's fortunate I had boys Grin

I agree with Susan-really dislike it! I rather like Susie though.

Also dislike-Gloria, Dinah, Tilly, Gwen and Gladys! Am not terribly keen on the name Lynn either-I went to school with a truly horrid one :(

Boys' names-really don't like Connor, Rhys/Reece, Steven or Caine/Cain/Kain.

But then you will never get a name that everyone will like all of the time; life would be very boring then!

Urgh I can't stand Katie either. Totally irrationally too! But then I like Katy.

Can't stand Amelia, anyone who has Mae/Mai/May as a middle name (it's what Jane as a middle name was in the 80s, just boring. Jane is also my middle name).

Can't stand the name Steven either! Or Oliver, Theo, Juno. Most names grind my gears! So I'm sure to offend you all Grin

Not too keen on anything old many/woman.

Not particularly a fan of surnames as first names either.

Very Americanised names bug me like CeeCee, Duane, Lafanz etc.
