Polly....just blends in with Holly, Molly etc or quirkier????

I really like the name Polly. I think it is quirkier than Holly, Molly, Millie, Tilly etc but would like to know if that is the general consensus.

As for all the nursery rhymes associations I think it is cute, PJ Harvey sells it for me as does the Nirvana song though I know it's inspiration is sad )

Thanks x

It's in my top five - I love this name so much :)

Makes me think of a freckle faced, tree climbing girl with dirt on her knees and hair slightly askew...

but then I am quite strange :)

oopsadaisyme · 29/12/2013 19:17

Coconutty personally, think your wrong - (glad you seem more in the 'know' cos 'you work with hundred's of them, really???)

Got a friend called 'Molly', don't think she's ever just 'blended' !!

I don't happen to know of any 'Polly's', (and my Ds's go to school with hundreds of children, so am I qualified to comment also, haha!!)

Love all the names you mentioned anyway!

Sigh.....

oopsadaisyme · 29/12/2013 19:24

Coco just wondering, what girls names do you like? x

DitsyDonkey · 29/12/2013 19:26

Oh my gosh Wombmates that is the same kind of image that comes to mind for me when I hear the name Polly! Grin

I have an extremely clever and successful relative called Polly...slightly oddly (and this will probably out me) her best friend is called Holly...

great name!

DitsyDonkey · 29/12/2013 19:27

i do not think any of these cutesy names are 'quirky' they just sound a bit....no offence,,,, but ...silly?
polly milly molly tillie..sorry but we are not doing our daughters any favours with these names...v cute for babies and toddlers but you know they will have to go through adult life and job interviews with these silly little baby names?

MadameDefarge · 29/12/2013 19:29

even more hilarious, ahem, is that her husband is called Paul!

Its all limericks and japes round our way!

oopsadaisyme · 29/12/2013 19:29

Oh, totally agree with wombmates, freckles et al x More I read more I love Polly!

You go OP x

MadameDefarge · 29/12/2013 19:30

like I said Nigella, said relative is extremely professionally successful. Never held her back in the slightest. As is the Holly, for that matter

NigellasDealer · 29/12/2013 19:31

oh i am sure your relative is successful, I expect she has the strength of character to pull any name off, but you know what i mean.

DitsyDonkey · 29/12/2013 19:32

Nigella I guess it will only be a problem if they come up against small minded people.

Anyway, by the time thus generation grow up it will be perfectly normal to hear adults with those names!

Oopasdaisyme yep I'm likening it more and more!

Polly has been my favourite girls' name since childhood. My treasured doll is called Polly.
Dh says no as he thinks it is too close to Pauline, his aunt's name. Makes me sad.Sad
It conjours the same image for me, with the added extra, she would have red hair, pale skin and lots of freckles!

oopsadaisyme · 29/12/2013 19:42

nigella (and is that your name? I'd think that would be slightly synonymous with a 'fun loving chef right now', but you obviously have strength of character to 'pull it off'!)

Ditsy Polly all the way, lovely name xx

oopsadaisyme · 29/12/2013 19:52

(Jusy hope Nigella come's back at me as 'I'm not a Nigella, I'm NigellasDealer - funny!!) xx

DitsyDonkey · 29/12/2013 20:00

Pmsl @ oopasdaisyme!

My Polly is Definetely quirky. Have just put a pic of her on my profile - her own take on rock chick!

hootloop · 29/12/2013 20:20

I don't think Polly is a quirky name, just a mormal pretty girls name.
I wanted to name DD Dolly after a relative but DH used his veto.

NigellasDealer · 29/12/2013 20:22

Grin no my name is MillyMollyMandy - with a name like that I had to become a dealer

5HundredUsernamesLater · 29/12/2013 20:27

I work with children too but I haven't ever come across a Polly. Had numerous called Holly and Mollie and even a Millie or two but not one Polly. I love it though. Much better than some of the silly names inspired by certain so called fashionable celebs.

NigellasDealer · 29/12/2013 20:30

oh do you mean Honey Booboo and Fifi Trixibelle?

DitsyDonkey · 29/12/2013 20:32

twofalls oh gosh she is sooooo cute, you have definitely sold me on the name. What reactions do you get to the name?

The worst has got to be kate Winslet. Think she's lost the plot!

Mumzy · 29/12/2013 20:41

Polly makes me think Guardianista journo. There were 3 of them last time I looked

oopsadaisyme · 29/12/2013 20:41

Nigella lol- millymollymandy made me proper laugh - dealer had to be the way forward for you, 'M'n'm's' x haha
