Israeli/Hebrew boy's name - which one you like?

For years had a name for a girl, and oops! it's a boy. 36 weeks now and still don't have a name, will you help me choose one? Has to be a Hebrew name (hubby's demand) and pronounceable/nice-sounding for UK English speakers (as we're here to stay).
What do you think of these options I have so far?
Gili
Ziv (nickname Zivi)
Adi (nickname Didi)
Tal

How is Gili pronounced? If it is like Jilly, it will sound like a girl's name to.English ears. But if it is pronounced with a hard G then I like it best. Followed by Adi, then Tal. I like Zivi, but not Ziv so much. All nice names I think. Well done!

OKmum · 13/12/2013 22:01

Thanks! It is pronounced with a hard G. How would you suggest spelling it to reflect that?

I like Zivi and Tal.

I also really like Gillon (hard 'g'): Gil is a cool nickname.

SlinkyB · 13/12/2013 22:05

Ooh, I love the name Gil/Gilli/Gilly (hard G) for a boy. Also stuck on how we would spell it to avoid it looking like a girl's name written down.

Not keen on any of the others to be honest, but no experience of Israeli/Hebrew names!

HyvaPaiva · 13/12/2013 22:05

Tal, Ziv, Adi, Gili.

All very lovely! Gili, though, does have potential pronunciation issues (I know a guy called Gillan - hard 'g' - who is called the female 'Gillian' on a daily basis)

ThisOneAndThatOne · 13/12/2013 22:09

How about Guy?

I know a few Anglo Israelis that have called their son Guy as it works in both countries

OKmum · 13/12/2013 22:11

Can't be Guy - that's hubby's name:)

Ira is my favourite boys name I've never heard of your choices.

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 13/12/2013 22:14

I don't know any baby David's - I think it's a fab name.

Gilly, tal, nice too.

OKmum · 13/12/2013 22:45

Is Ira a Hebrew name? I don't know what it means.

Meanings are really important for hubby:

Gili = my joy/happiness
Ziv = brilliance/radiance
Adi = Jewel
Tal = Morning dew

sonlypuppyfat · 13/12/2013 23:00

Fishandjam · 13/12/2013 23:02

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 13/12/2013 23:24

Totallyunited · 14/12/2013 08:06

Love Tal, it's a really strong name and all the Tal's I have met have been lovely.

Gunznroses · 14/12/2013 08:11

Ziad pronounced 'Zeeyad'

fancyanotherfez · 14/12/2013 08:13

Is there any reason why you can't have 'old testament' names like Jacob, Joshua, Adam, Noah etc or is it just that you like the ones on your list more? I would have thought going old testament would easily fit into both countries. ( I have Jewish but not Israeli family, and their kids all have these names, so genuine question?)

KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/12/2013 08:15

Really like Adi
Also Nev (Yaniv)

HeadingHome · 14/12/2013 08:16

HeadingHome · 14/12/2013 08:17

I like Ziad

ItsWarmerInTheSouth · 14/12/2013 08:18

I love Asher, Isiah ( Issy or Izzy,) Reuben, Gideon, Gabriel, Jethro (Jet), Jonah...

OKmum · 14/12/2013 08:26

Thanks everyone! Not so keen on biblical/classic names, sorry...

Tamir a lovely name, but means 'tall', which would be ironic as we're quite short...

If you are small, don't go for adi/didi!
