Honestly...we don't like ANYTHING (boys name)

Well, we've got 5 weeks to go and DH and I are still unable to agree on a dreaded boy's name. We had a shortlist for girl's in about twenty minutes...hnow can it be this hard?

There is very little overlap in the names we individually like. I like sensible, strong names (with the occasional odd one thrown in for good measure), DH likes the quirky ones and clearly imagines our child to be going down the path of rock and roll stardom. I, on the other hand, don't think a child will thank me for calling it Castro when he walks into a meeting at work 25 years from now.

My list:
Elliott
Gus
Toby
Ryan (but less so as our surname beings with an R and I'm not sure where people stand on alliteration!)
Evan

DH list
Hunter
Castro
Eli
Patrick (curve ball - but not a fan)

Help! Seriously, help us! Every time we try and discuss this we give up as we're so "stuck" on the names we already have in our heads.

The only criteria we agree on is that the name should be instantly pronouncable by sight.

My DH and I never found "the one" with boys names either but had girls names sorted from the off. Always took it as a sign that we were having girls, which we did both times.

Anyway, how about Rafe?

FWIW, my husband vetoed both Elvis and Django!
So, I would happily go with Elvis; in fact, I would insist on it if we were to have another son.
I think that Elliot/Eli ia a good compromise.
I'm not helping much, am I?

Again, thanks for all the suggestions. Some are a little "out there" but all help is gratefully received.

Dylan is out-bad associations.
I have actually grown to love Elvis but I CAN'T do that to child.
I love Hal. I'm going to float it tonight!

Loving some of these suggestions, I have 2 DD's and we didn't bother with finding a name until they were born because we couldn't agree.

Sometimes you look at them and they just look like a [name]. We found that with our two, their names just came naturally... It's really stressful choosing names, especially if you both have different ideas, but once you've found one that is perfect, then you just know.

Congratulations on the blue bump and good luck!!

Evan. Such a lovely name.

DavidHarewoodsFloozy · 18/12/2013 20:29

Patrick, I love.

Hal is brilliant.

You could go all topical with Nelson, Ronnie, or Madiba.

I also love Francis, Henry, Asa.

MyMILisfromHELL · 18/12/2013 20:32

Elliot is probably the nicest name on your list tbh

barbalala · 18/12/2013 22:11

Sorry, not read previous posts, just trying to adhere to your specifications when you say...

"DH likes the quirky ones and clearly imagines our child to be going down the path of rock and roll stardom. I, on the other hand, don't think a child will thank me for calling it Castro when he walks into a meeting at work 25 years from now"

So what about IVO?

ProfondoRosso · 18/12/2013 22:18

Eli is cool! In a similar vein, there's Avi, which I love (short for Avram) or Ari (short for all manner of things).

You'd need to be a pretty committed Commie and willing to stand up for it if you called him Castro! Might be a bit of a barrier to him getting employed as a city banker not such a bad thing Grin
