Difficult surname - help please!

Have nc'd so that I write my surname!

We have an awkward surname as in - it can sound a bit poncey apparently.

We don't know what we're having yet but we like:

George (I know, I know, but I've loved it forever)
William (as above)
For boys

And

Seren
Victoria (hate the nns though)
Savannah (this gets some negativity on here - can someone explain? I like Vannah for short)
Esme (meh)
Anna (DH says too plain)

So obviously I need your help! Our surname is w/i/n/d/s/o/r (trying and perhaps failing to make it unsearchable there!)

Anything you think that would go nicely? I'm sick to death of looking in names books!

I think all those names sound fine with your surname, although George might invite some comments!

Weegiemum · 02/12/2013 17:39

Not bad. Our surname incorporates a popular slang word for breasts.

That was hard.

Don't go for George!

HaleyDunphy · 02/12/2013 17:40

Ha! Okay, so if not George, any suggestions? This is hard!!

OP posts:
Umpire · 02/12/2013 17:43

You can't use William either!!

Umpire · 02/12/2013 17:45

Weegiemum, I'm dying to know what your sur name is. McTits? O'boobs?

lljkk · 02/12/2013 17:51

Not Vannah, really bothers me.

Any name you like OP. Except maybe not George, Charles, Andrew, William or Harry.

Kantha · 02/12/2013 17:57

Not George, not William or any other name currently occupied by a prominent living member of the Royal Family.

Victoria I would avoid too even though they hadn't adopted that surname until WW1 so she wasn't Victoria W...

Seren and Savannah seem very different in style to your other more regal ideas.

Anna is lovely, but said with your surname sounds a bit 'da-da da-da' in terms of rhythm.

Trying to be constructive though...
Thomas
Louis
Theo
Albert/Gilbert nn Bertie
Patrick

Hmm, need to think more about girls' names. Will come back if inspiration strikes.

Umpire · 02/12/2013 18:03

What about Susannah? Or Bethan.

Seren and Savannah aren't great. Savannah Windsor sounds like a stage name. Not in a good way. LIke Freddie Star.

Mind you, I like the name Fredrick but again, not with Windsor.

Patrick would be good, it's classic but not royal classic so Patrick balances out the royal.

Aquariusgirl86 · 02/12/2013 18:04

Joseph? Jacob?
No royal names though!

mirren3 · 02/12/2013 18:14

James? James W...... Sounds like a distinguished name imo.

HaleyDunphy · 02/12/2013 18:21

Ohh I really like names like Catherine, Charlotte etc etc

would George be really bad then? I hate having this surname. I feel deflated!

ToffeeJungle · 02/12/2013 19:14

I wouldn't go for anything overly regal either though if you like traditional names that could be quite tricky!

Daniel
Samuel
Robert
Owen
Christian
Matthew

Anya
Francesca
Natasha
Lydia
Florence
Jemima
Rebecca
Hannah

HaleyDunphy · 02/12/2013 19:51

Ok so from this thread I like

James (DH says no but he is useless and just wants George)
Theo
Louis (would people say Lou for short though? Don't like that)

And Lydia.

Not in love with any though. Why is it so hard!!!

Rooners · 02/12/2013 19:57

I'm now obsessing about Weegiemum and her wonderful surname.

Mrs Bapsicle

Mrs Jugsworth

Mrs Boobington

Mrs Norkholster

Oh dear, I am sorry...deviation, etc etc

I like George.

Definitely not George I'm afraid in my opinion!

lisianthus · 03/12/2013 11:36

Not George, certainly, but not Barbara either unless you like Carry On jokes.

James is good and so are ToffeeJungle's ideas. I particularly liked Owen, Rebecca and Hannah.

David? John?

Umpire · 03/12/2013 13:25

lol Rooners. RumpleTitskin (tee hee)

And to the OP, I would go for names that are classic (as your taste seems to be but not royal classics. Dominic, Juliet, Marcus , that kind of thing.

Lydia Windsor has a real ring to it. I think it's the double up of the same vowel in both names, plus two syllables with three. works very well.

Vivien Windsor the same pattern
Jillian Windsor

Weegiemum · 03/12/2013 14:30

Umpire it's along the lines of McTitts! In the real world, everyone with that very rare surname is related - there are about 40 of us, most live in Germany, and everyone has a different first name, therefore we are all unique, I'm the only person in the world that has my name or has ever had my name!

Umpire · 03/12/2013 16:30

oooh ! well, I won't ask you to divulge it.
Must be nice to have a unique name. But then, very traceable too. I never fear being googled!

MrsT2007 · 03/12/2013 16:35

What about something like Jude or Seth?

manicinsomniac · 03/12/2013 19:15

I have a Savannah, often called Vannah. It's never been popular on here, I don't know exactly what's wrong with it. I (obviously!) love it. Also like Seren, Anna and Esme.

But you cannot call your child George, William or Victoria w/I/n/d/s/o/r!!

MortifiedAnyFuckerAdams · 03/12/2013 19:17

Id avoid most royal names with that surname, byt accept that its hard to find a traditional name that hasnt been used by the House of Windsor.

Benjamin Windsor

Rebecca Windsor
