He was from Malawi. A tough name to live with in the UK but he lived up to it Grin He was very proud. Not sure that will inspire any of you but it brought a smile to my face.

How could i forget?, my late sister was called Precious and boy was she.

Parttimelover · 15/11/2013 17:56

I love these names and what they say about what was important to the baby's parents at the time. Saying that, I work with a Beauty and fortunately for her, she really is one. But i do think its a bit of a tough name for your average teen to have to take with her through secondary school etc.

Parttimelover · 15/11/2013 17:57

Sorry for your loss Blessed.

Soldierskittle · 15/11/2013 18:02

I LOVE these names. The closest I was allowed was Joy for Dd's middle name :)

Soldierskittle · 15/11/2013 18:05

Oh Blessed :(

Such a beautiful name and way to remember your sister

Chippingnortonset123 · 15/11/2013 18:09

Dash, Rush, Chase and three Bears.
Sounds like a cocktail.

TidyDancer · 16/11/2013 15:35

I know a Sunny and a Bear.

HorsePetal · 16/11/2013 15:43

My DD used to go to school with a girl called Precious Love Smile

Mitchell2 · 16/11/2013 15:44

I've worked with a Sensation and her brother was hop along Cassidy (Cassidy for short!). We work in a call center together and she had to shorten it to Seni as some people would ring up and sometimes think they were calling a sex chat line. She was fab, and certainly had a big joyful personality that matched the name :)

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/11/2013 16:00

I've met a storm

And a breeze

And I know a sunny. She really is too :)

CatOfTheDay · 17/11/2013 01:57

I've met women called Lovely, Happiness, and Moreblessings :)

blueemerald · 17/11/2013 02:06

I taught a girl called Marvellous and now teach a boy called Abide.

Longdistance · 17/11/2013 02:42

I used to work with a chap called Sunday. Iirc he was Ghanian. He was really like a sunny day, such a nice bloke.

fliedpiecatcher · 17/11/2013 05:32

Do you think kids feel under pressure to live up to their name though - like a 'Sunny' feels they have to be cheery? And a Marvellous could feel bad if he or she did something that wasn't at all marvellous?

I would worry that I might be burdening my child with a name it might not live up to such as Patience, Happiness. Or what if you had a 'Goodness' who shoplifted or something that isn't good? I love names such as Blessing though, because that doesn't depend on anything the child does but what the child IS iyswim? Or maybe am I overthinking this.

flied, the kids do not feel the pressure in any way because the naming has much to do with the parents and their relationship with God at the time of the children's birth, we the kids with these names carry them with so much pride and it reveals the kind of relationship our parents have with God. Christianity being and playing a very important role in the family's life. So when you see a Wonderful:-) ;-) it's not that person who is, well, if you know what I mean, but God who has given the family the child is the one being honoured. Wonderful is a reminder to the parents of a prayer answered,

MylesKennedysVocalCords · 17/11/2013 11:45

I actually love these names! I had teachers at school, both African whose first names were Justice and Charity. I also went to school with a Comfort, Blessing and Joyful.

Kasey12 · 17/11/2013 15:34

I love these names too! I am friends with a guy called Tribute, and I have met a Gift and Trust. Such nice names :)

uptheanty · 17/11/2013 15:38

I met a very tall dashing gentleman from Nigeria called Sherriff.

Very cool Smile

fliedpiecatcher · 17/11/2013 23:32

Blessed I can see how within a country/culture etc, a child with such a name doesn't feel any pressure to have to 'live up to' it in any way. But what about expectations on someone who leaves their home country? Would you get people who didn't understand, making ignorant comments on the lines of "Well, she might be called Sunny but she isn't half miserable?" etc?

BlessedAssurance · 18/11/2013 23:55

fliedi do not know about the others but i can only use myself and a few of my friends who happen to have left our home countries. The response has been positive to be honest. I live in Scandinavia so might not know what i am on about. My pal is a Patience and have never ever been met with Confused

peppapigmustdie · 19/11/2013 14:19

I have met a Glory a Praise and a Beauty all from Malawi too.
