He was from Malawi. A tough name to live with in the UK but he lived up to it Grin He was very proud. Not sure that will inspire any of you but it brought a smile to my face.

I know a little girl called Serenity which is an awesome name. She absolutely doesn't live up to it though and is a total, gorgeous live wire who charges round at all the local playgroups and even out wits my very bolshie 4 year old DS (she's just turned 1). Grin

I've come across a Precious, Treasure and Comfort at work.

Some lovely names on here, especially Efficient!

SantanaLopez · 13/11/2013 21:14

I know a Happy and a Wisdom. It's so strange how well they suit their names!

I quite like Gloria, but I'm not sure we could pull it off.

PenguinsDontEatPancakes · 13/11/2013 22:06

These names are fabulous aren't they.

I will add that I heard a GodsBlessing (not sure how it was spelled on the use or otherwise of hyphens or apostrophes) on radio four recently. How nice to know that your parents think so highly of you!

bouncingbelle · 14/11/2013 00:13

You have got to be kidding.... who would name their child these?!

squoosh · 15/11/2013 17:33

Grin at Efficient, doesn't quite have the joie de vivre of the other names mentioned on this thread.

BlessedAssurance · 15/11/2013 17:34

I am from Southern Africa and all these names are common for us. Parents normally name their kids depending on what would be happening to the family before and during the pregnancy. Patience, Prudence, Everjoy,Rejoice, Even, Lovemore,Takes urettferdig, Blessings and Blessed are favourites. My neighbours, Misery, Lovejoy, Marvellous, Bothwell and Borgia all siblings.

squoosh · 15/11/2013 17:36

Shock Misery? Must have been a very difficult birth!

BlessedAssurance · 15/11/2013 17:37

My phone just changed Takesure to a Norwegian word which means unfair;-) :-) and has zero to do with the names

MuffCakes · 15/11/2013 17:37

In our church there's a Patient. He's training to be a doctor!

Ds's best friend at church is called Genuine. There's a Precious as well (girl) in the church too - they're all from DRC.

I was at bible college with a Fabulous, always called Fab but he really was fabulous!!

BlessedAssurance · 15/11/2013 17:39

Squash, i have no idea but i think it had something to do with the inlaws

OneStepCloser · 15/11/2013 17:40

DH met a MacElvis yesterday, apparantly his parents originally though Mac was very British and most people put it at the start of their names and yes they were massive fans.

Love these names though, they are just so gorgeous.

squoosh · 15/11/2013 17:43

A lot of the virtue names that are popular today have their roots in Puritan England, names such as Felicity, Hope, Liberty and Verity. On the flip side people also gave their kids names such as Fear-God, Repent, Forsaken and Abstinence which have unsurprisingly fallen out of fashion in England.

This handsome chap was called Praise God Barebone! What an epic name.

Ubik1 · 15/11/2013 17:44

I spoke to a 'baby' the other night Grin

I love Blessing and Precious. Also 'Morning'

usualsuspect · 15/11/2013 17:44

I also know a brother and sister called Kingston and Jamaica.

stickysausages · 15/11/2013 17:45

Lovely names, they mean exactly what they say... so honest & meaningful for it Grin

BlessedAssurance · 15/11/2013 17:46

I know a Device too, gosh I used to envy my friends with such names, i have a traditional name which i hated until my dad explained why he gave it to me. When I was born i was the third girl in the family, My grandmother went ballistic and wanted my mum to be divorced, DF said no way and gave me my name which means cherish in English or hold on tightly. I fell in love with it there and then. Opps sorry op for thread hijack
