The Irish can't say it, they pronounce it Root

People in parts of the SE say Roof

When you have to give your name over the phone, everyone thinks you've said Liz Confused You often have to spell it.

Other than that it's a great name, given to wonderful people Grin

That'll be some Irish pronounce it Root. I don't have any problems with the 'h'. I have to say though I'm not a fan, it's a bit of a snooze of a name.

It's inoffensive but just a bit 'meh' to me. Not very dynamic. It's like the magnolia of names.

Love it, nice and short, easy to spell, impossible to mispronounce and difficult to shorten , so all good!

I've never liked it because, ironically, it makes me think of its opposite meaning: ruthless.

I suppose it's because that's one of those odd words where we never use the positive form. Like disgruntled and uncouth.

I think it's a strong name for a principled and not overly frilly person. I like it.

It's good, and meets the mumsnet test, ie she could grow up to be a model, or a teacher, or a high court judge.

She can't be a pirate, of course, but then maybe you're happy ruling that out as a career choice.
