Asa Rufus or Rufus Asa?

Asa isn't a girls name.

It's a Scandinavian girls name meaning "goddess". I've learned on this thread that it's also a boys name.

OP, would you consider Acer? Then you won't get the inevitable "girls name" conversations which I'm sure will not be limited to MN...

Åsa is a girls name. It's written and pronounced very differently.

Asa is a hebrew boys name.

Rufus Asa doesn't flow well at all, the S sounds are too close together and, with Asa beginning with a vowel, it just ends up as a single sounding mess IMO.

I meant that Asa and Arlo have the same initial, and are very much the same type of name. Like Philip and Peter. If you only had the two of them it would be matchy matchy.

I prefer Asa. Don't think either combo 'flows' very well though, if I'm honest. Rufus Asa is particularly 'bad' because there's nothing to break the flow between the separate sounds so they blend together instead. Asa Rufus is better, but not great imho.

I like them both, particularly Rufus but I don't think the go well together at all - too clunky and busy.

Asa is a really strong, quite out there name, and it needs to stand alone as a first name I think. If you pick it as a middle name it will just look like you didn't have the courage of your convictions.

I've decided it doesn't actually bother me though,I don't think they're too similar.

And no,I don't like Acer,that's a brand of computer,I'd much rather my DS was confused with a girl than an inanimate object.
DP feels much the same way and he's a Male who's actually got an actual girls name,so I reckon he's probably the authority on it.

The Swedish name is pronounced differently,has a funny A that my ipad cant even do,has a different meaning and is,umm, Swedish. So its not exactly like calling him Sue.

I do think Asa Rufus sounds better though,and we can't find any other names we love as much as these two...
spent ages looking for names and discarding perfectly lovely ones with the same initials as our other DC, to find there weren't any really left...

So I've decided to scrap that rule,and go with the names we like best

Y'know what....I've got a luffley picture of DS in a rainbow fairy outfit,complete with pearls and hair clips and a big pout because his sparkly ring kept falling off
