Melody - it'll just get shortened to Mel won't it?

Or is there a way around that? We love Melody but I'm less keen on Mel.

I know a twin, she's Melanie and her twin is Melody, both get called Mel.

Bambamb · 07/09/2013 09:47

Oh dear Sad

I know a Melody at work who just gets calledMelodie. Don't know what her friends call her though.

mrsdowneyjnr · 07/09/2013 10:00

I knew a melody at school and she was always melody. My name is very commonly shortened but I like the full version so just correct people when I first meet them. It's never an issue.

Bambamb · 07/09/2013 10:43

Well that's a bit more encouraging thanks.

Does it annoy you to have to correct people?

I dislike the usual shortenings of my name. As an adult, people call me what I introduce myself as. But as a teenager I was maybe a bit overzealous in correcting people and I got teased (mostly in a friendly way!) for introducing myself as "Melody DON'T CALL ME MEL".

Having said that, if she decides for herself that she like's Mel, there's nothing you'll be able to do.

mejon · 07/09/2013 12:24

I know of one and she's known as Mellie/Melly.

Vatta · 07/09/2013 12:50

I've known 2, both always called melody not mel. It's a pretty name

Jemimapuddleduk · 07/09/2013 14:06

What about Elodie? Very pretty

MortifiedAdams · 07/09/2013 14:07

I know a Melanie that gets Mellie

It could be shortened to Dee Dee?

Bowlersarm · 07/09/2013 14:08

I know a Melody which hasn't been shortened.

I think if you use it though you should be prepared that it might be.

Shapechanger · 07/09/2013 14:37

Not good, Melody it's a bit chavvy like Lacey or Destiny And of course it will be Mel.

Bambamb · 07/09/2013 16:21

Surprised you think it's chavvy, I worry it's a bit too frilly and posh!

Quite like Elodie too, good suggestion thanks.

OP posts:
Shapechanger · 07/09/2013 16:22

Elodie is much nicer.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 07/09/2013 16:24

Twins called Melanie and melody? Wtf were the parents thinking?!

Another vote for elodie here Smile

Rhubarbgarden · 07/09/2013 16:25

It is frilly but not posh. I agree Elodie is nicer.

Takver · 07/09/2013 16:40

Trouble is, Elodie could end up as El - of which there are a million, at least round here (DD had an 'El gang' in her class at primary - Eleanor / Ella / Elizabeth / Ellie).

I think Melody is nice, and I wouldn't call it frilly, but I agree it is very likely to get shortened to Mel as your dd gets older.

MortifiedAdams · 07/09/2013 16:54

Melody, to me, runs a hemp shop and has an allotment and her kids are called Rainbow and Moonstone. Far far from chavvy!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 07/09/2013 17:18

aoife

How strange. Somebody didn't think hard enough about those name choices.

OP

I love Melody. I'd choose it and grit your teeth

Elodie is classier though

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 07/09/2013 17:19

... actually, I didn't mean classier, I meant posher.

soontobeslendergirl · 07/09/2013 20:25

Elodie just sounds like LOD to me - doesn't even sound like a name. I know a Melody that is never shortened.

DawnOfTheDee · 07/09/2013 20:26

I have a Melody - no-one has tried to shorten her name yet!

CityGal29 · 07/09/2013 20:40

Fab name X

MintyDiamonds · 08/09/2013 00:44

I love the name Melody, prefer it to Elodie.

mathanxiety · 08/09/2013 05:10

I know a Melanie who is known as Smell.
