Suggestions for "Grandad" style name?

DC2 is due at the beginning of December.

If it's a girl she will probably be Mary Harriet, if it's a boy we are currently stuck !

We already have a Poppy Arabella and absolutely love Arthur but it sounds stupid with our surname.

I am trying to persuade DH on Walter but he is wavering to and from it.

I like Ted as a nn but Edward is just okay.

My Grandads' were Jay and Jim (James)

I love Jay although I expect it is my DBro's first choice. My Dad (now a Grandad) is called Graham (sounds seriously out of date at the mo, but you could start a trend?!)

My grandfathers were Henry (Harry) and Augustyn. Thinking about it, Augustyn is a bit lovely!

My father is George but the popularity will put most off, and my FIL is Bernard... Hmmm, Maybe not.

My grandfathers were Maurice Edmund and Philip John. Quite like Maurice (pronounced Morris) but love Edmund and really wanted that one myself. Only problem is, shortening it to Ned which, in Scotland, means the same as Chav so, as I live in Scoltand, had to give it up!

You rarely hear Ed- names shortened to Ned nowadays, do you? Sounds very old-fashioned to me. Wouldn't it more likely be Ed or Eddie, or Ted/Teddy which seems to be more fashionable now.

Did laugh at Malcolm and Geoffrey, yes that probably is a mn step too far ! :)

DH has now suggested Monty, not sure if this should be the name of a cat though.

I do like Otto, not sure what I think of Theodore (which would give us Ted as a nn). Herbert and Hector and Gilbert are going on the list thank you.

Bruce makes me think of the Kardashians and Basil makes me think of faulty towers unfortunately

DS has a 'grandad' name. It seemed too old for him when he was tiny, but they grow into them.
