I already have an Isla looking for another beautiful Scottish girls name. Can't find one I like as much as Isla!

You got it, Zoe.

Morna? Means "beloved", it's my dd1s middle name.

All the others I like have already been mentioned.

harverina · 04/09/2013 07:37

Morna is lovely but my dh has vetoed it Angry

Do let us know what you settle on!

Isla is a gorgeous name and I think Greer is a great suggestion. Other ideas are Alice, Annabel, Alex or Alexis, Elspeth, Heather, Kirsty, Mairi. A previous poster mentioned that Mairi could also be pronounced with a 'V' as in Varree - just to say that here in Scotland the usual spelling for that name is Mhairi. Have fun choosing!

You know, my dd is named after doing one of these threads myself a few years ago....

Eilidh. I have an 11 week old called eilidh and she is beautiful. Not that I'm biased or anything Wink

I love her name Smile

Frangepani · 05/09/2013 00:39

Awakemysoul I meant to include Eilidh as one of my favourites - such a lovely name.

Frangepani · 05/09/2013 00:43

"A previous poster mentioned that Mairi could also be pronounced with a 'V' as in Varree - just to say that here in Scotland the usual spelling for that name is Mhairi."

Mairi is NEVER pronounced Vah-ree, only Mah-ree. I think the previous poster was explaining the vocative case in Gaelic which changes spelling/pronunciation.

In Gaelic, if you are speaking TO someone, the case of the name changes. So you meet your friend Mairi in town, "Ciamar a tha thu, a Mhairi?" [How are you, Mairi?], but always would refer to her to your other friends as Mairi, so you'd say, "Tha Mairi sia bliadhna deug." [Mairi is 16 years old.]

As for Scottish names, I think Elspeth is lovely, as are Catriona & Mairead.
