I already have an Isla looking for another beautiful Scottish girls name. Can't find one I like as much as Isla!

I read a series of Scottish books when I was growing up called Rhanna which was about a fictional island in the hebrides.

I always wanted a little girl so I could call her Rhanna but typically got 2 boys instead!

Senga!

specialmagiclady · 30/08/2013 20:10

Chuckling at Senga! I love Elspeth and Ishbel - although where I come from the latter is pronounced Ishbull which isn't as pretty. Isla and Ailsa are quite similar in terms of the letters they share, but are pronounced very differently, begin with different letters (so no Ms A Whatever mix ups) and are named for two distinct parts of Scotland so if you ken yer ingins there's no comparison.

Jennyl131 · 30/08/2013 20:21

I like Eilidh (I have an 11 year-old one!) The English rellies can't spell it mind Smile

specialmagiclady · 30/08/2013 21:04

I have a relative called Mirren, known as The Saint.

MrsFrederickWentworth · 30/08/2013 21:16

Jeanie I think is lovely. Jeanie with the long brown hair. Jane Carlile was known as Jeanie or Jenny.

sausageandorangepickle · 30/08/2013 21:24

Katie Morag Grin

Actually either Katie or Morag are really nice, but perhaps not together

Piffpaffpoff · 30/08/2013 21:45

We discounted Morag on nickname grounds - Morag the toerag.

Charotte31 · 30/08/2013 22:46

Arabella

aoife24 · 31/08/2013 00:49

I thought ''Mhairi' was pronounced Varri but happy to stand corrected.

bouncingbelle · 31/08/2013 01:11

The 'mh' in mhairi makes a v sound, so mhairi is pronounced
Varry.

Mairi is pronounced marry.

I love shona, Iona, aila, eilidh (or ailie), Kay or kirstie.

bouncingbelle · 31/08/2013 01:16

Alba
Kirsteen

Elspeth - I think this is lovely, and could be shortened to the equally lovely Elsie or Elspie.
