Dc3 is due in early October and we're stuck for a girl's name. I like flower names (dd is a Primrose) and the fact that Mimosa is fairly unusual, I also like mini / mimi for short.

The first thing I think of is that it is the name of Buck's Fizz in the US...

WhispersOfWickedness · 28/08/2013 22:05

As in the drink, not the band Grin

StrangeGlue · 28/08/2013 22:05

It's an alcoholic drink. It would be like calling your kid babysham

SPBisResisting · 28/08/2013 22:05

The new Chardonnay I'm afraid

sonlypuppyfat · 28/08/2013 22:06

It hardly trips off the tongue does it

Eastpoint · 28/08/2013 22:06

It sounds too similar to Primrose to me. It's also what they call Bucks Fizz in the US.

Jasmine? Lily? Marguerite? Violet?

Bowlersarm · 28/08/2013 22:08

I think it sounds quite nice actually, and also like Mimi.

I haven't heard it before. Is it an established name?

Only other thought is Primrose likely to 'Prim'?( My DS has a friend called Prim.)

You might then get Prim 'n' Mim which isn't so good.

ImpulsePineapple · 28/08/2013 22:08

No. It's a cocktail...

Bowlersarm · 28/08/2013 22:10

I have never heard of a drink called Mimosa. So much to learn on MN......!

2cats2many · 28/08/2013 22:10

Good grief, no!

ChristineDaae · 28/08/2013 22:11

It's a cocktail I think?

lililon · 28/08/2013 22:11

Oh dear, didn't know that Mimosa is a drink in the US. I've always liked the flower and thought it's a pretty name. May need to reconsider...

First thought, it's a cocktail and it features in an episode of Friends when Pheobe is drinking it for breakfast in Vegas sad Friends addict I am

blondieminx · 28/08/2013 22:17

It's the name of a naice restaurant in our nearest town.

Also, I think with it containing the syllable "os", it's too close to Primrose. So, how about

Daphne
Fern or Fearne
Holly
Ivy
Iris
Cecily
Hazel
Heather
Myrtle
Saffron (too Ab Fab?)
Tansy
Violet
Willow?

bishboschone · 28/08/2013 22:20

I had a horse called mimosa ,nn Mimi , she was beautiful and such a lovely soul so I love it. May be in the minority though.

InkleWinkle · 28/08/2013 22:20

Skye - that's my first thought too!
'I'm drunk right now. What? I can't have a mimosa for breakfast?' Grin

Did not know it was the same as a Buck's Fizz though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2013 22:21

I like Mimi as a nn but Mimosa is dire, sorry.

Dd1 was nearly Miranda nn Mimi.

kiwik · 28/08/2013 22:28

My first thought was cocktail.

Also, Mimosa and Primrose are far too similar in sound, due to the os.

heidihole · 28/08/2013 22:29

didn't know it was a flower. ONly know it as bucks fizz! too much like chardonnay i'm afraid...

Clary · 28/08/2013 22:29

I've got a Mimosa in a class this year (yr 7) which is a total first. She's known as Mimi apparently. I rather like it actually tho it's a bit out there.

I do think tho OP it sounds a bit similar to Primrose tbh. Didn't know it was a drink!

Iwantacat · 28/08/2013 22:31

I really like the name and never heard of the drink!! I know a little Mimi and on her birth certificate she's a jemima.

Hebemajeebe · 28/08/2013 22:32

How about Iolanthe or Ianthe for an unusual flower name? I quite like Mimosa but the drink association would put me off.

MissFenella · 28/08/2013 22:55

different champers oj proportions for a mimosa, but it reminds me of The Incredibles so would be a no for me.

But if you love it go for it.

TigerSwallowTail · 28/08/2013 23:01

It would be a hideous name sorry.

raisah · 29/08/2013 09:00

How about Zinnia? It is the name of a flower and quite unusual.
