Rachel is pretty Ruth reminds me of an old woman

Thesebootsweremadeforwalking · 07/08/2013 23:54

Ruth, for it's meaning, though I like both very much.

Saffyz · 07/08/2013 23:55

Ruth is more understated and pretty, I think.

BrianTheMole · 07/08/2013 23:56

Both good. Although depends which part of the country you are for Ruth. Where I am it would be constantly mispronounced as Roof.

friendlymum67 · 07/08/2013 23:56

Ruth - there are not many of us!! Grin

tywysogesgymraeg · 08/08/2013 00:05

Ruth

elQuintoConyo · 08/08/2013 00:11

Rachel, hands down.
Although, if you call her Ruth, she can be Ruthless when she's older Grin

ShadowMeltingInTheSun · 08/08/2013 00:38

I like both of them.

Although as a PP said, Ruth may be mispronounced as Roof by some people.

Breezy1985 · 08/08/2013 00:39

Ruth

kiwik · 08/08/2013 00:50

Ruth - every Ruth I've known has been delightful, both child and adult.
Rachel conjures up mean girls to me, and is slang where I grew up for being a bit tight with money, which puts me off.

ZingWidge · 08/08/2013 02:10

ha, I know 2 sisters called Ruth snd Rachel - they are both lovely!

Amy106 · 08/08/2013 08:12

Rachel but Ruth is nice too.

treaclesoda · 08/08/2013 08:16

Ruth. It's lovely, and classic.

MrMacadoo · 08/08/2013 08:18

I'm a Rachael and I love my name, Ruth reminds me of an older person's name (no bias there at all though! Grin)

chattychattyboomba · 08/08/2013 09:17

Ruth

SprinkleLiberally · 08/08/2013 09:18

Rachel is lovely. Ruth is a bit too harsh sounding to me.

diddl · 08/08/2013 09:21

I prefer Rachel.

Rachel Ruth?

LaRegina · 08/08/2013 09:28

I love Rachel - Ruth I'm not so sure.

I think a lot of it comes down to who you associate the names with - when I was at school I knew a couple of girls called Rachel - they were really popular and cool but not in the 'too cool to be nice' crowd Smile. The only Ruth I knew was an old boss and she was very stern and frumpy - sorry Ruths out there Grin

Caip · 08/08/2013 10:09

I'm a Ruth and like it - and am not stern or frumpy Grin - see?

I'm not too keen on Rachel

LaRegina · 08/08/2013 10:31

You're obviously not my ex-boss then Grin

formicadinosaur · 08/08/2013 11:34

Ruth. Quite like Beth

squoosh · 08/08/2013 12:04

Rachel.

Ruth is an old ladies name. Not a cool old lady though, one who scowls at her neighbours and shakes her fist at small children.

Longdistance · 08/08/2013 12:10

I have a friend Ruth. She's great. We call her Ruthie.

Not keen on Rachel, sorry.

sparkle12mar08 · 08/08/2013 16:39

Both are lovely and underused, but I would always spell it Rachael.

DoItTooJulia · 08/08/2013 16:49

Rachel always ends up as Raaaaach. Not as pretty as Rachel.

I like Ruth.
