Probably the two most unusual i have come across are surrogate and pocahontas. At least they'll be unique in their class I suppose!

BeaWheesht · 05/08/2013 21:45

Oh also remembered there was a Maia deer at our caravan park. I assumed joke at first but they really didn't seem the type.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 05/08/2013 21:48

Where Di you live? Arthur, iris and Stanley are really quite popular. I know at least 3 of each.

Doris was mine...

JiltedJohnsJulie · 05/08/2013 21:50

No sorry just remembered there was a Peppa, thought I'd misheard at first, but heard them say it again. She was dressed completely in Peppa Pig stuff too.

sausageandorangepickle · 05/08/2013 21:58

I recently came across Wade as a boys name - I quite like it

LynetteScavo · 05/08/2013 22:05

Arthur, Iris & Stanley are all very normal around here.

The only unusual name we came across on holiday was Jowan. But we were in Cornwall.

DeeLighted · 05/08/2013 22:12

We met 2 brothers (about 5 and 7) called Steven and Darren.

I know lots of men with those names but never heard them used for a child!

TheYamiOfYawn · 05/08/2013 22:15

A Peppa dressed entirely in.Peppa Pig stuff might have been answering to Peppa rather than her real name. I am waiting to see if anyone ever posts about a child called Fisher-Tiger which is DS's alter ego, and I do end up calling "Fisher-Tiger! snack time" at him.

LynetteScavo · 05/08/2013 22:15

DeeLighted, that's so funny, and unbelievably retro. Do you think the parents were aware of that, or just picked two names they liked?

DeeLighted · 05/08/2013 22:23

I thought they might be family names? Lovely boys, really suited their names!

Vijac · 05/08/2013 22:24

A nancho (I had to ask twice to check I hadn't misheard). Surrogate is pretty special Confused

PoppyWearer · 05/08/2013 22:33

I thought I had come across a Pepper/Peppa but then realised the dad was talking to his daughter's toy, not to her. Blush I hoicked down my judgey-pants and thought "awwwww" instead.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 05/08/2013 22:37

I would have thought that about Peppa too Deelighted but they said it a few times and we bumped into them again when they were discussing what to give Peppa for lunch. Agree though that she could just answer to Peppa, although she was a bit young.

My DS often answers to Tiger and dd answers to Semolina. Just waiting for those to come up...Grin

parabelle · 05/08/2013 22:48

Sennen, never heard it before but little boy, must have been about five.

redspottydress · 06/08/2013 01:48

Why cringe at Georgia, Stevie, etc?

LillyNotOfTheValley · 06/08/2013 06:31

Cindy, short for Cinnamon
a 4yo named Warren
Among DS' playmates: Maple, Felindra and Yuri
Overheard today at the hotel: "Plum, come here!" Hmm but then DS has just decided to answer only to "teriyaki" so..

Twostep · 06/08/2013 08:19

If anyone heard me yelling for DH, they's think his name was Moomin. I've called him that for years (it started out as Monkey - Monkey-Moo - Moo - Moomy - Moomin).

He really hates the Moomins too!

Greydog · 06/08/2013 08:32

Some years ago we came across an Osbert. He was in a supermarket & his mum was shouting for him. "Osbeeeeert" in a scouse accent just doesn't go.

Kneedeepinshittynappies · 06/08/2013 08:35

Ds only answers to train quite a bit, get some llooks especially since he has very normal, run of the mill name!

ZingWidge · 06/08/2013 08:40

we have nicknames for all our kids - let me know if you hear us shout Bam-bam, Mockster or Snowy etc !Grin

Twostep · 06/08/2013 08:57

I wonder how many name threads have been started over an overheard nick name!

ZingWidge · 06/08/2013 09:19

twostep quite!

friends' DDs are nn Beans and Dotty (as in spots, nothing to do with her actual name)

then there's Banana, Tomatoes, Sticks (cousins)

and of course many a husbands nn "you idiot" - that's very common! Grin

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 06/08/2013 10:11

Many years ago my friend had a boyfriend called Clarence. We introduced him to my mum, who burst out laughing and said 'no, really, what is your REAL name?' Blush

He didn't call again ...

badtime · 06/08/2013 11:12

Lilly, 'Plum' is usually a nickname for Victoria.

forevergreek · 07/08/2013 14:42

We know a little Edgar. Lovely as it is for my 92 year old great uncle, I dont think I got away with hiding a small chuckle when we first heard. He's about 2 now
