60 something who washes and waxes his Ford Mondeo every Saturday and then brings his wide Marjorie out for a spin on a Sunday. They bring their own flask and sandwiches, he's not one of those fools who pays silly money for a new fangled Panini! 'You might as well throw your money away Marjorie'.

filee777 · 01/08/2013 22:20

Nope dislike

BeanoNoir · 01/08/2013 22:20

Rory?

Bowlersarm · 01/08/2013 22:21

Ha ha squoosh very funny. I can just imagine his 'wide Marjorie'- the description fits her perfectly.

LazyMonkeyButler · 01/08/2013 22:22

I take it you don't watch Coronation Street?

Roy Cropper anyone?

LazyMonkeyButler · 01/08/2013 22:23

That's a firm nay by the way.

MyBoysAreFab · 01/08/2013 22:24

Nay!!!! What about Rory instead?

Ikeameatballs · 01/08/2013 22:26

My Dad is a Roy. He is lovely but squoosh's description wasn't far off!

And he doesn't like his name.

monniemae · 01/08/2013 23:02

Yay! I have a cat called Roy and have already debated whether we could call firstborn after the cat... (but it's a girl). Great middle name too if you aren't sure. And what about Roy of the I.T. Crowd fame? I love it. (Also love Ray.)

Manchesterhistorygirl · 01/08/2013 23:04

Used to work with a Roy. Had to leave my position because of him

Up there with Keith, Alan and Colin. It will take another generation to rehabilitate these names.

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/08/2013 23:26

Nay.

Just no.

Wbdn28 · 02/08/2013 00:16

Yay. It's a good solid name and not overused.

MrsBungle · 02/08/2013 00:22

NAY. It is truly terrible.

Onesleeptillwembley · 02/08/2013 00:43

Dear God, no! And I say this as the cousin of a lovely 60 year old Roy.

Stat · 02/08/2013 00:49

I'm not keen on Roy, but don't see anything awful about it.

Although I quite like Leroy, or Ray/Raymond.

How about Rowan? Apparently from the same origin as Roy, but a bit more current.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 02/08/2013 00:49

No no no and thrice nay.
Ghastly name, it sounded old fashioned when I was a youth and I am just 49.
As someone said, it's in the same mould as Brian, Colin, Trevor etc.

Freemilk · 02/08/2013 00:53

It is a bit dated
Second name maybe?

ZadokTheBeast · 02/08/2013 01:15

isn't it short for Corduroy?

Quaffle · 02/08/2013 09:41

God no.

ChairOfTheBored · 02/08/2013 10:06

Nay - nothing against the name itself, but I work with a Roy who is one of the more irritating humans I've met, so am projecting my experiences of one onto the name as a whole!

Choccyhobnob · 02/08/2013 11:07

Know 2 babies with Royston as a middle name, think it's totally cool but Roy on its own? For a baby? Nay.

Wbdn28 · 02/08/2013 11:40

Royston is a town in Hertfordshire.

squoosh · 02/08/2013 11:43

Royston reminds me of Royston Vasey.
