Having just been laughed at by DH (and all of you!) for my suggestion of Herb, DH has suggested Humphrey.
What do you all think of that. I quite like it. I also like Huxley, but he thinks that is a dogs name!

Humph is awful as a shortening. Hump is worse. Don't do it.

Teamjavert · 31/07/2013 11:42

No,no,and a thousand times no. It's awful.

Onesleeptillwembley · 31/07/2013 11:43

Awful.

Mummysaysno · 31/07/2013 11:45

It's sort of so awful it's gone out the other end and is no longer awful...I find myself quite liking it!

mootime · 31/07/2013 11:48

Oh blimey! We are having a bad day on the name choosing front...
Any suggestions would be good.

Oh, I like Herb. It was on my list for ds2.

What's Wong with Herb??

DoItTooJulia · 31/07/2013 11:49

Wrong. NOT Wong.

ArabellaBeaumaris · 31/07/2013 18:42

I like Humphrey!

Littlecherublegs · 31/07/2013 18:48

I don't like Humphrey or Herb, sorry.
Don't mind Huxley though!

You seem to like names beginning with 'H' so how about:
Harris / Harrison
Hayden
Harry
Harley
Henry
Hugh
Horatio
Hugo
Harold?!
Horace???!!!

racingheart · 31/07/2013 19:19

I've only known three Humphreys in my life.

They were all good looking, uncommonly brilliant and very witty. One was drop dead gorgeous and all the women at uni had a crush on him. He moved to Oz, not sure what happened then.

So it's a name I associate with rather successful men.

Love it.

Nothing wrong with Herb either. What a lovely name. But I do love old fashioned names.

ZolaBuddleia · 31/07/2013 19:23

It feels rather pompous to me, a sort of braying idiot type name. Huxley's good though, as is Hal.

bringbacksideburns · 31/07/2013 19:24

Reminds me of Humphrey the cushion.

Probably a bit before your time.

cookielove · 31/07/2013 19:26

Humphrey reminds of the little grey elephant, very cute i must say!!

I like Huxley

mootime · 31/07/2013 19:26

Ooh see, I see a Humphrey a bit like that. All the famous Humphrey's I can think of were cool (Bogart, Lyttelton). Maybe it can go on a short list.
I do also like Hugo (and do appear to like names with an H).

I also like Clement but DH is not keen. Only 22w, so plenty of time to choose.

Still looking for suggestions though!!

mootime · 31/07/2013 19:27

Ah! Cross posts! I was referring to Racing's description of a Humprey (not as a braying idiot type!)

Witt · 31/07/2013 19:45

Makes me think of Humphrey Lyttleton and he was brilliant. I like it.

Alohomora · 31/07/2013 19:48

I like Humphrey, it's quaint and lovely. Clement is really nice, too!

NotMyChashkaChai · 31/07/2013 19:50

Appleby!

Onesleeptillwembley · 31/07/2013 19:52

You can get two of your names in one song; 'Where you been today, Huxley pig, humph, humph'. Seriously, they're all pretty bad.

sonlypuppyfat · 31/07/2013 19:54

I thought of Humphrey the cushion how anyone can name a baby that is beyond me

Yika · 31/07/2013 19:57

It's a terrible name, sounds like a joke. How about Hereward, Hartley or Harley.

Bowlersarm · 31/07/2013 20:00

At least you would never have to worry about it being over popular OP Grin

FriskyHenderson · 31/07/2013 20:03

I'd think Humphrey Lyttelton.

BlissfullyIgnorant · 31/07/2013 20:04

...was a cushion in Hickory House in the 70s.
Huxley, on the other hand, sounds a bit intellectual.
Does it go with your surname

squoosh · 31/07/2013 21:44

Herb or Humphrey? It's like the Sophie's Choice of awful names.

I'll be trembling with fear to read your next suggestion.

I like Huxley though!
