Having just been laughed at by DH (and all of you!) for my suggestion of Herb, DH has suggested Humphrey.
What do you all think of that. I quite like it. I also like Huxley, but he thinks that is a dogs name!

Humph is awful as a shortening. Hump is worse. Don't do it.

It's sort of so awful it's gone out the other end and is no longer awful...I find myself quite liking it!

Don't mind Huxley though!

You seem to like names beginning with 'H' so how about:
Harris / Harrison
Hayden
Harry
Harley
Henry
Hugh
Horatio
Hugo
Harold?!
Horace???!!!

I've only known three Humphreys in my life.

They were all good looking, uncommonly brilliant and very witty. One was drop dead gorgeous and all the women at uni had a crush on him. He moved to Oz, not sure what happened then.

So it's a name I associate with rather successful men.

Love it.

Nothing wrong with Herb either. What a lovely name. But I do love old fashioned names.

It feels rather pompous to me, a sort of braying idiot type name. Huxley's good though, as is Hal.

Ooh see, I see a Humphrey a bit like that. All the famous Humphrey's I can think of were cool (Bogart, Lyttelton). Maybe it can go on a short list.
I do also like Hugo (and do appear to like names with an H).

I also like Clement but DH is not keen. Only 22w, so plenty of time to choose.

Still looking for suggestions though!!

It's a terrible name, sounds like a joke. How about Hereward, Hartley or Harley.

Huxley, on the other hand, sounds a bit intellectual.
