Having just been laughed at by DH (and all of you!) for my suggestion of Herb, DH has suggested Humphrey.
What do you all think of that. I quite like it. I also like Huxley, but he thinks that is a dogs name!

I rather like the name, I much prefer it to awful names like Connor or Tyler

mootime · 31/07/2013 21:53

Ouch Sqooch!
I was thinking that its probably a good thing not to mention my other DC's names...

Sorry moo! After posting that I did think 'hope that doesn't seem too harsh'.

As I say I really do like Huxley!

LondonMother · 31/07/2013 22:08

I love it and I also think of Humphrey Lyttelton and Humphrey Bogart. It's easy to spell and easy to pronounce and he probably won't be one of half a dozen Humphreys when he starts school.

exoticfruits · 31/07/2013 22:14

Very true, bowlersarm.

RoadToTuapeka · 01/08/2013 00:38

Humphrey is dreadful! My friend had a DS now aged 2 called Herbie. Herb is ok I guess. I like Huxley. Huck/Hux seem reasonable nicknames.

sleepingbeautiful · 01/08/2013 04:39

We have an aging pet tortoise named Humphrey...
Not keen on Huxley. It's ungainly sounding.
Does it have to begin with H?
I can only think of:
Henry
Hugh
Hubert (tad better than Herbert - at least Hughie could be nn)
Heath
Hector
Harvey
Howard

Showing my age here but.............Watch Out There's A Humphrey About!!!! A milk advert from the 1970's!!!!! Grin

MaMaPo · 01/08/2013 05:54

Makes me think of Humphrey B Bear, a terrible kids show in the 80s in Australia. I vote no.

Numberlock · 01/08/2013 06:00

We must be similar age Lottie as that was my first thought too!

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 01/08/2013 06:16

I think of Humphries or camels (though why camels I have no idea)

AgathaPinchBottom · 01/08/2013 06:20

I like it! Reminds me of Humphrey Bogart. A very beautiful friend of mine has recently had an adorable Humphrey. I think you should go for it and don't worry about it dividing opinion.

Choccyhobnob · 01/08/2013 11:06

hellhasnofury I get the camels thing. There's either a joke or a song about a camel with 3 humps called Humphrey!

Makes me think of that little grey elephant on the Humphrey's corner brand of things.

I like Huxley though even though I can't get the Huxley pig song out of my head, but that was a cute programme!

MrsMongoose · 01/08/2013 15:39

I LOVE It! It's going on my list!

Twirlyhot · 01/08/2013 17:52

I agree with your DH. Huxley sounds like a dog's name and Herb is wrong. I don't love Humphrey but it's way better than the other two.

IfUSeekAmy · 01/08/2013 18:24

My friends labradoodle is called Humphrey and we call him Humperdinck . please don't now add Humperdinck to your list!

LynetteScavo · 01/08/2013 18:35

I love the name Humphrey. It's a fine name indeed.

But it's just as much a dogs name as Huxley, but maybe that's because I knew a dog called Humphrey.

If I had a dog, I'd call him Hamish.

LynetteScavo · 01/08/2013 18:35

Actually, Huxley is a pigs name.

ArtemisCake · 01/08/2013 18:43

Love Humphrey, it's due a revival.

Ruprekt · 01/08/2013 18:45

Truly awful.

Awful for baby, toddler, teen and adult.

neomamma · 01/08/2013 18:54

I like it! I think it can be really cute for a baby, it's got a soft sound without being feminine. I'd think Humphrey Bogart!

DaveMccave · 01/08/2013 19:38

It's cute! I know a little one, he gets Humph. I also like Huxley though, after Aldous, not the pig :)

Viviennemary · 01/08/2013 21:52

It's dire.

Frikadellen · 01/08/2013 22:23

I like both Herb and Humphrey

LazyMonkeyButler · 01/08/2013 22:26

This is the only Huxley I know of.

Humphrey is just nasty.
