I will admit this came from a comment on the Imogen Tamsin thread as it reminded me of dh when we were looking for names for our children.

He doesn't like what he says are " weak" names so for him Christopher and Alastair are "weak names"

Wouldn't consider Tristan and Sebastian as they were gay names.. (err how the F can a name be gay?)

and it was incredible for a guy who went to a all boys school the amount of girls names that were vetoed because it reminded him of a girl from when he was at school.....

I was like...

Disclaimer this is considered to be lighthearted..

Obviously I had sound reasons for each of the suggestions he came up with like " No I dont like it" :)

Lydia- sounds like Thalidomide
Toby- a dogs name
Isaac, Elijah- too biblical & Jewish & that's not a good thing with the Islamist extremists at the moment- seriously WTF??!! (By his decree Joseph wasn't too biblical- I mean its not like there's any Joseph's in the bible is there?!!)
Chloe- name of his cousins first wife who dumped him 2 weeks after the wedding
Jude (for a boy)- its a girls name & everyone will call him Judy

We have a few too - it's actually a wonder we managed to name 3 DCs!

Sebastian - too posh (and also gay).
Elliot - "eats paste" whatever that means. As does Louis (pronounced Loo-ee).
Christian - too religious.
Sam (for a boy) - "I went to school with a horrible girl called Sam".
Isaac - too "wet". Apparently you couldn't imagine a grown man saying "I'm off for a beer with Isaac". Like that's a reason .
Levi - jeans.
Tyler - "roof, floor or walls?".

Polly - parrot or "Polly put the kettle on".
Natalie - "wrong generation".

Hahaha some of these are absolutely hilarious Please let there be more?!

Ruby- would get ruby booby.
Lydia- sounds like labia
Lola- walked like a woman, talked like a man......

I'm with your husband Travails on George. It's a fat name, not just a name for fat people/animals (George from Rainbow) but the word itself is really podgy and obese in my mind. If that makes any sense.

Alice - Who the fuck is...... that annoying song
Luke - Use the force etc

He doesn't even fully 'trust' middle names ffs
also he will not consider a shortened name eg max or Charlie,
would have to be Maximillian (too Bond Villain) or Charles.

I wasn't allowed by absolute favourite name, Theadora, because it was at the time of Dora the explorer being huge. So unfair because I wanted to call her Thea everyday, Theadora just for the BC. He really broke my heart not allowing it!

Alfie was also de-voted because he said imagine a 50 year old business man called Alfie. I adore the name but that image really put me off.

TBF I am just as bad, I rejected DH's favourites, Chloe, Elise and Harriet all on the basis of people I knew or -worse- friend's children I knew who I disliked or found too naughty

I'm afraid, in my heavily-pregnant state, I asked what 'X's real name was, and upon hearing it said icily "Oh? And with that name as reference she has the cheek to pontificate on MY choice of name?"

DH did the wise thing and kept his trap shut thereafter about what any of his colleagues might think of our name choices.

(Ds2 had the above as his middle name in the end )

Can't remember many specific names, but I remember DH vetoed lots of names because they were "too Irish", "too Welsh", "too American" or just plain "too foreign". So I thought of some good traditional English names and was told they were either "too boring" or "too posh".

And for every boys name I liked, if it wasn't something you'd find in a 1970s classroom then DHs stock response was that "he'll ghet bullied for that when he's older".

He told me Benedict would be called Bendy Dick, and so on...

It took a long time to name DD2!

In the midst of naming dc2 (due in may) and we have had
Theo - I will always think of Theo Walcott (a footballer), but quite happy to put forward RONALDO!!!
Lexi - they will call her sexy lexi and she will get a reputation
Felix - too much like the cat
Isaac/ Noah - too biblical, may as well call him JESUS
Scarlett - a friend has a child called that
Savannah - sounds like a LiON

I think I will secretly name dc on my own

Maisy- because it rhymes with his aunt's surname (different to our surname
Alfie- 'Moon'

Several names because his mate at work had never heard of it as a name (including the name our dd now has, which is not particularly uncommon)

Esme- sounds like gonzo.
And many more besides

Oh and Nanny Plum my DH says he gets the no to Theo and yes to Ronaldo So I think we better ensure our dh's never meet :)

Another one here who had jasper vetoed due to the wasp link. I'm relieved to see it mentioned though as I thought DH was making it up!

Also refused Xavier (French pronunciation) as he said people would pronounce it like the xmen character.
