LittlePandaBear · 22/06/2013 17:10

heidihole · 22/06/2013 17:10

Dylan for a boy is bad enough. Agreed.

Onesleeptillwembley · 22/06/2013 17:15

Yes, set her up for a lifetime of teasing, funny looks and misunderstanding. Confused

DramaAlpaca · 22/06/2013 17:16

No, no & no again!

Sorry...

JazzAnnNonMouse · 22/06/2013 17:16

Could be quite cool - prefer the name unthread.
Dylan for a boy is meh

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 22/06/2013 17:23

I know a girl Dylan. She's 7 now and it's still confusing and seems wrong calling her.

It always gets the Hmm look too.

I wouldn't use it.

burberryqueen · 22/06/2013 17:25

no it is bad enough for a boy

JumpingJackSprat · 22/06/2013 17:47

I prefer it for a girl and dont think is too bad for a boy either. i dont think it would be confusing. i see a lot of names in my job and some of them are truly weird but you know what most people dont get so confused with spelling etc as people make out... gone are the days of every child being called charlotte/matthew/chloe etc. Id much rather see more unusual names and children cope with it. so long as its not totally out there like moon unit.

ScentedCandlestickMaker · 22/06/2013 17:57

I have a female relative called Daryl. And she is older than Daryl Hannah.

ScentedCandlestickMaker · 22/06/2013 17:58

So I think Dylan could be a girl's name, and I'm sure it would work but it's too popular currently imo. At least Daryl is not that popular iyswim. So although I find them equally soft/strong and if you just listen to the sound they are equally unisex, I want to suggest Daryl to you instead.

oohaveabanana · 22/06/2013 17:59

I had a female rabbit called Dylan - but that was only because the vet got the sexing wrong when we bought it

5madthings · 22/06/2013 18:01

I have an eight year old Dylan, he gets caled deeby of deebystar.

Its OK as a girls named, I think in america they use it more as a girls name.

blueemerald · 22/06/2013 18:05

I knew sisters called Dylan and Tobey when I was growing up. Yes, their dad wanted boys.

themilkmonster · 22/06/2013 18:07

I quite like Dylan for a girl. I was considering Elliot for a girl when I was pg with my DD (didn't end up using it though!)

BalloonSlayer · 22/06/2013 18:07

I think Daryl was probably originally a girl's name (I am thinking of Darrell Rivers here, Enid Blyton was certainly not normally adventurous in picking names) and became a boy's name later.

MrsBungle · 22/06/2013 18:08

I know a 4 year old girl Dylan. She really suits her name. I like it.

Autumn12 · 22/06/2013 18:21

What is wrong with Dylan for a boy?

MeerkatMerkin · 22/06/2013 18:40

I'm not pregnant, it just occurred to me whilst watching Fireman Sam with my 2yo that the name Dilys (as in Auntie Dylis!) could be adapted by two letters and that actually Dylan sounds nice for a girl. Wouldn't call a boy Dylan. We're just not that cool. Wink

No.

ScentedCandlestickMaker · 22/06/2013 18:45

I'm not that coooool either. I'm thinking of the cool mom from mean girls now. "I'm not a regular mom Wink I'm a cool mom".

5madthings · 22/06/2013 18:50

What exactly is wrong with Dylan as a name? We were going to call ds3 arlo but a week before a friend used that name and ds2 always said I was having a rabbit not a baby.,. So Dylan he became,Dylan lucas. Its a perfectly normal name and bizarrely he has always been the only one in his year at school, whereas ds4 who has a more unusual name, rudi... Has a child in his year with the same name.

MarianneBrandon · 22/06/2013 18:52

Reminds me of the Charlie's Angels film. Drew Barrymore's character was called Dylan.
