Scottish girls name that's a bit feisty?

Hi
I'm due dc4 in 2 weeks, we have 3 boys with good strong Scottish names and have a couple of boys names we like if we have another boy, but are struggling a bit to agree on a girls name (don't know what we are having)
Names we are considering include Morven (dh's favourite but I'm not sure, Elspeth (I like this but ?too girly/ lispy), Isobel/ Ishbel (same issue)

I would appreciate any other suggestions or opinions on those names. We definitely don't want anything frilly, but something with a bit of oomph, so she can compete with her 3 big brothers!

Thanks for your help!

I have an Eilidh.

Other names like Catriona, Mhairi, Mairi, Mirren or Murron.

tabulahrasa · 18/06/2013 08:15

Um...a bridie is a type of pasty

PoppyAmex · 18/06/2013 08:26

"Bridie is a pet form of the feminine name Brighid which is of Gaelic origin. It means Powerful and Virtuous"

But yes, tabulah I just realised you're right. Grin
Not a suitable name for a girl in modern Scotland.

tabulahrasa · 18/06/2013 08:40

Oh I know it's a name - I thought it was Irish personally, but I don't know why.

I just thought maybe people might want to know that in Scotland it's a pasty, lol

PoppyAmex · 18/06/2013 09:04

I hadn't heard it before but think it's lovely.

Would definitely use it but I'm sure my Scottish DH would also object on the same grounds Grin

OP, I think Ishbel it's a strong, beautiful name. I know a girl with that name and people from other countries always comment on how interesting and lovely it sounds (and as a bonus, it's familiar to most nationalities and easy to pronounce).

A friend many years ago called her daughter Bridie and i can remember thinking it was such a pretty name. Grin

tabulahrasa · 18/06/2013 16:20

Is Maisie a Scottish name, Ginger? It's very pretty.

I also think Margaret is due a comeback; so many amazing nicknames like Peggy!

GingerCurry · 18/06/2013 17:11

Well Poppy the only Maisie I've ever known was very Scottish and best friend of my Granny in Stirling. So to me its always a Scottish name. Dont know if this is everyone elses view.

I like margaret too. Overdue a comeback

Wandastartup · 19/06/2013 00:07

I have a Margaret too( known as Meg) I think it's a fantastic name and don't know any others under 50...

Thinkingof4 · 19/06/2013 13:03

Thanks for all the suggestions, lots to think about. Of course I'll likely have another boy now Grin
