Scottish girls name that's a bit feisty?

Hi
I'm due dc4 in 2 weeks, we have 3 boys with good strong Scottish names and have a couple of boys names we like if we have another boy, but are struggling a bit to agree on a girls name (don't know what we are having)
Names we are considering include Morven (dh's favourite but I'm not sure, Elspeth (I like this but ?too girly/ lispy), Isobel/ Ishbel (same issue)

I would appreciate any other suggestions or opinions on those names. We definitely don't want anything frilly, but something with a bit of oomph, so she can compete with her 3 big brothers!

Thanks for your help!

I second Ishbel. Worked with a lovely one.

williaminajetfighter · 17/06/2013 22:22

And please not Isla. So popular now, they are everywhere.

no Mhairi, it's a bit of a Gaidhlig spelling mistake, that one. Mairi's nice, though. i think i like Elspeth best.

Pimpf · 17/06/2013 22:26

I thought Merida too turnthatfrown

Thinkingof4 · 17/06/2013 22:28

I really like eilish but ds3 is hamish so def too similar sounding!

Fiona is good, will add to short list. Esme I also love but it doesn't really sound right with our surname unfortunately

I appreciate all the suggestions, I'm sure if we have a girl it will be one of the names on this thread!

Keep 'em coming please

I wouldn't mess with someone called Morag.

Elspeth is unbelievably wet

Thinkingof4 · 17/06/2013 22:29

Merida made me smile, but I couldn't name a child after a film!! Definitely along the right lines though

Clara

MacaYoniandCheese · 17/06/2013 22:36

Fiona is good Wink. Strong, sensible, clever but undeniably feminine. Also love Morag, Shona and Ishbel (Tish) too. Will echo other posters who've said that Isla is super-popular. I live in Canada and there are lots of little Islas here too...

Wandastartup · 17/06/2013 22:42

I have a very feisty Elspeth Iona! Also another Scottish Amex daughter but don't want to out myself fully!

Wandastartup · 17/06/2013 22:42

Sorry named!

tabulahrasa · 17/06/2013 22:45

Catriona (catreena not catreeohna)
Kirsty
Rowan (to rhyme with cow not mow)
Mairi
Moira

NonnoMum · 17/06/2013 22:50

If you like Isobal, how about Isa after my scottish grannie (ize-uh)?

Mehrida · 17/06/2013 22:53

Another vote for Fiona. Although I do know a couple of (adult) Morags who are both good fun but nobody would dare mess with!

NewAtThisMalarky · 17/06/2013 22:54

Vaila
Merran
Cairstiona

NewAtThisMalarky · 17/06/2013 22:55

Eilidh

thefirstmrsrochester · 17/06/2013 22:56

My granny was Elspeth. Pronounced Elspet though. Girly? My gran was knee high to a grasshopper but kicked ass when need be.

mrsyattering · 17/06/2013 23:01

Moyra, Morna, Rhoda (think its Scots) Rhona, Morag, Aillie

BeaWheesht · 17/06/2013 23:01

Ds and dd both have very Scottish names.

On our list for dd were:

Mirren
Ealasaid
Mairead
Ishbel
Elspeth (love)

BeaWheesht · 17/06/2013 23:02

Oh and Flora but other people's opinions put us off...

TolliverGroat · 17/06/2013 23:08

I know a small and extremely determined Elspeth.

MaryKatharine · 17/06/2013 23:13

Lots of good ideas. What about Margaret? I know a little Maggie and think its lovely.

Thinkingof4 · 17/06/2013 23:16

tolliver I can imagine having a wee one like that given ds2 and ds3's personalities!
