Teddy Bear....

Suggested Edward as a possible name for DC2.

DH was very positive about Edward, but then... insisted that he would only go for Edward if we gave him the middle name Bear, because then he would be a Teddy Bear Confused Hmm

WWYD? Leave Edward on the list & try to talk DH out of a ludicrous middle name, or go back to the drawing board?

Tell your DP he's crazy.

peanutsandwich · 12/06/2013 22:52

Oh dear, had he had a drink or three before he suggested that.

barnetro · 12/06/2013 22:53

Ask him if he would like to be called teddy bear?!?!?

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 12/06/2013 22:54

Why not go the whole hog and call him Winnie-the-Pooh?

FatherSpodoKomodo · 12/06/2013 23:10

Tell him he's bonkers. You can call him Teddy Bear without actually naming him Teddy Bear!

ShadowStorm · 12/06/2013 23:12

DH was stone cold sober, so he can't claim that as an excuse.

I think Bear is a nn for Edward anyway. So it would be like calling him Edward Edward. You can call him Edward nn Teddy Bear and then give him a nice middle name.

reelingintheyears · 13/06/2013 00:34

Or Rupert, that goes nicely with Bear too. Hmm

MrsShrek3 · 13/06/2013 01:24

pmsl reeling Grin

How about Fred?
aka Fredbear (threadbare) Wink

praps not.
Hmm

MrsShrek3 · 13/06/2013 01:25

Paddy. Short for Paddington. Also goes well with Bear.

Hedwig3 · 13/06/2013 11:53

Agree with Barnetro.

Would he like it... would you?

SuitedandBooted · 13/06/2013 13:13

It's not a proper name, and I pity any kid having to give THAT as his full name in school. Does he want to imitate Bear Grylls? His real name is Edward Michael Grylls, by the way, Bear is a NN thought up by his sister!

GW297 · 13/06/2013 15:34

Don't do it!

squoosh · 13/06/2013 16:41

He's probably looking forward to saying to people 'this is my new son, Edward, we call him Teddy.....guess what his middle name is, go on guess......it's Bear. Ha ha ha, aren't we hilarious? Do you get it, do you get it? Teddy.Bear......Teddy.Bear. Isn't that brilliant?'

No it's not brilliant, it's ridiculous. Slap him around the head with a cold fish, might awaken his senses.

Reastie · 13/06/2013 16:46

I feel sorry for you OP. Your DH is mad! It gave me a good laugh though. Please don't go for bear. Maybe you should suggest bear for a first name and then bum for his middle name and see how he reacts to that

Turniptwirl · 13/06/2013 16:49

Do not let him give your child the middle name Bear!

I know little Rupert who gets called Bear affectionately at home (usually during cuddles)

You can call him bear all you want, it's a cute nn, but shouldn't be his real name!

Justfornowitwilldo · 13/06/2013 17:27

LTB

Seriously, tell him to get a grip. Edward is nice BTW.

cory · 13/06/2013 17:28

Orson?

Orsino?

Björn?

Beorn?

Longdistance · 13/06/2013 17:32

I prefer Yogi Bear

BreathingLessons · 13/06/2013 17:49

he thinks he's bear gryllis

BreathingLessons · 13/06/2013 17:50

Actually, having Bear as a first name and using it as a first name more to the point, that is brave, but revealing that it's your middle name seems embarrassing.

BreathingLessons · 13/06/2013 17:50

you can't GROW in to a middle name is the point I'm trying to make!

amazingmumof6 · 14/06/2013 02:15

or what about Buddy Bear a la Jamie Oliver?

or just go for Pom Bear Bear

quertas · 14/06/2013 10:59

Offer compromise? Edward Arthur (Arthur means bear).

BreathingLessons · 14/06/2013 11:06

I think Oscar is from the Irish for Bear.

Edward Oscar?
