Trying to get opinions on our baby boys name. (not sure whether it is blue or pink yet) but thinking with these strong kicks blue! Can't decide on the name and not sure if Rico is too different??? Would like a middle name beginning with J to fit in with the family 'theme' . Baby due in 3 and a half weeks x

Henry is indeed quite boring and overused. Rico sounds cool, fun and masculine. It's easy to spell/pronounce and he won't have to add his surname/initial to his name - what's not to like?

Thanks 'hellokitty123' lovely comments Grin

Henry Joseph - lovely name :)

FairyArmadillo · 05/06/2013 18:41

Henry Joseph and Rico Joseph are both better than Rico Jay in my opinion. I don't see why you have to be of Spanish origin to use Rico. It goes with your other son's name (Luca).

hokeycakey · 05/06/2013 19:44

I actually like Rico but not Rico Jay not sure why but think something else may go better, everyone is right most people here will say Henry

Ps lots of people on here hated my ds's name he's now 5 & suits his name and hasn't had any problems because of it you will know what you like when he or she comes out!

mummsy2be · 05/06/2013 20:04

I think it goes well with Luca and no i'm not Spanish but who cares?? Rico Joseph is also growing on me. Thankyou 'hokeycakey' i'm feeling much better Grin

RICO sounds like a South American pimp and for some reason comes up in uppercase when typed on my iPhone!

If you are of Latin descent would not Ricardo be better, although not that much better IMO. If you are not if Latin descent sounds double silly.

GW297 · 05/06/2013 21:57

Henry Joseph

I'm not liking the ''Jay' part but I think Rico is fine. I know a very successful, lovely (and very attractive) grown up Rico. His name didn't do him any harm!

mathanxiety · 06/06/2013 03:29

Rico isn't bad but Jay is horrible. I know a German Rico (but his middle name isn't Jay).

Rico Jude
Rico Jonathan
Rico Nathaniel
Rico Sebastian
Rico Zachary
Rico Alexander
Rico James
Rico Dylan

Henry Joseph is a lovely name.

Sunnysummer · 06/06/2013 04:36

Absolutely Henry Joseph.

Eastpoint · 06/06/2013 04:47

I've just had a look and in Portugal/Brazil Henrique is used, I'm sure that is shortened to Ricky/Rico so actually Henry & Rico are in the same 'group'. Do you like the 'ry' 'ri' sound which is found in both names? Obviously you don't want to post your surname here but is there a clash with your surname with either name? 'Rory Joseph'?

YoniSingWhenYoureWinning · 06/06/2013 04:59

I really don't like the name Henry. But in your case, I suggest Henry.

TheRealFellatio · 06/06/2013 07:22

I amazed that you would pick two such hugely different pairs of names with such hugely different sorts of connotations. Staggered, actually. Grin

I think Rico is a bit daft unless you have a strong hispanic culture thing going on. Jay is exactly the kind of name I really dislike for reasons I can't quite articulate.

Henry and Joseph are fine - a bit so-so, but at least no-one will be looking for the maracas and the sombrero. Grin

ifancyashandy · 06/06/2013 07:48

Rico Jay sounds like the sort of name a premiership footballer and his glamorous wife would give to their son.

Henry is marginally better. But overused.

EuroShaggleton · 06/06/2013 07:59

To lawyers RICO means the US racketeering and corrupt organisations law.... Basically organised crime. Not a great association.

VodIsGod · 06/06/2013 09:38

My rule of thumb - don't give the name of a tank engine. Henry toots and huffs and puffs....

mummsy2be · 06/06/2013 13:01

yes 'Eastpoint' I like 'ry' 'ri' at the end of a name. Don't know why i'm drawn to Rico..just cool and cute I think and My OH is a Richard

OP posts:
FrogsgoLaDiLaDiLa · 06/06/2013 23:33

I taught a very cute Rico a while ago and like the name (in a 'I wouldn't use it myself' kind of way) but I'm not sure I'd go for Rico if you OH is Richard. They just seem too similar.

mummsy2be · 07/06/2013 10:35

I know what you mean 'FrogsgoLaDiLaDila' but we saw the name in a very current baby name book and when we read it thought..we like that one. Its tuff I never do different and I know by family will probably dislike it but if it suits baby then why not!

henry joseph.

Rico Jay sounds a bit odd and Irsh to me as in "rick o'Jay" but maybe it's just how I say it.
