Thoughts on Archie?

Ok so I have a dd called Eilidh and am pregnant with dc 2. Think we have decided a girls name (Annabel or Annabelle) so now just have to decide on a boys name.

Dh and I both love Archie but I am a bit worried about other people's reactions to it?

Honestly is it awful? And if you don't like it,do you think it's horrendous or just now for you?

I'm in Scotland and I love Archie as a name. Ds3 was very nearly an Archie, but ended up as a Charlie.

I'm Scottish, and I do like it, but when I mentioned it everyone went "oh, like in Balamory?!" Er no I just liked it! Didn't use it but its cool and not too over used.

QueenOfCats · 31/05/2013 18:26

Awful.

Hate to say it but its most chavvy.

squeelybean · 31/05/2013 18:28

Love it Smile

Turniptwirl · 31/05/2013 18:29

Love Eilidh and Archie is lovely too.

JumpingJackSprat · 31/05/2013 18:32

There goes that word again, chavvy! How a name can be chavvy is beyond me. i like archie but the popularity would put me off... having said that im not in scotland so i have no idea how popular it is there!

MadameJosephine · 31/05/2013 18:32

Sorry, I don't like it. I'm really not a fan of shortened versions as full names such as Alfie, Charlie, Archie. I prefer to have the full name and then use the shortened version but not sure about saddling a baby with Archibald

thegreylady · 31/05/2013 18:34

I like it and I know one [aged 3]

CarriMarie · 31/05/2013 19:56

I know a baby called Archer who is mostly known as Archie, I like it.

JojoMags · 31/05/2013 20:05

Not in Scotland, but in the borders. We thought about it as a nn for Arthur, but realised it was just an excuse to use Archie! Goes really well with Eilidh and far less 'of the moment' than Alfie/Charlie and also stands up better on its own. Go for it!

littlemissnormal · 31/05/2013 20:10

I like it but there's 3 in DDs class at school!

It has a nice sound to it.

I don't think it's chavvy at all.

Shattereddreams · 31/05/2013 21:29

Round my way (Greater London) it is common and frequently shrieked by vest wearing tattoo covered giant earring wearing roots need doing fag smoking overweight mothers. And the shrieking is constant as they are always naughty little buggers.

Judgey pants waaaay past my ears

But if you're not round my way I think you will be fine.

QueenOfCats · 31/05/2013 21:40

Agree with shattered - I live in London too, maybe that's why it strikes me as chavvy.

exoticfruits · 31/05/2013 21:41

It seems very popular. I immediately think 'Archibald' - even though people seem to have the nickname as a stand alone name.

Lebkuchenlover · 31/05/2013 22:10

All the cutesy Archie/Alfie type names have become so fashionable recently that I think it is only a matter of time for people to tire of them and they falling out of favour, sounding dated.

I love Eilidh and think that there are far nicer, more elegant boys' names!

Lebkuchenlover · 31/05/2013 22:10

Also, would he be Archibald officially?

MyLittleAprilSunshine · 31/05/2013 22:11

It's not that I don't like it, I actually find it quite cute. But my partners dog is called Archie so couldn't call my child it and it would always remind me of a dog. Same thing happened to the name Paula for me too.
