*sp "in fact" - there weren't many fat kids about in my estate when I was a kid - we went more for your "underfed scrawny look" round my way :o

soontobeslendergirl · 03/06/2013 21:25

Noo, I'm not from the Raptap :o

It's all been knocked down redeveloped now and is lnicer to drive through - apart from the speedbumps and the 20mph limit. It's like everywhere, the vast majority are nice people doing their best and it's the rowdy minority that give places a bad name.

Rowan?

PureDeadBrilliant · 03/06/2013 21:52

Kilmarnock?

PureDeadBrilliant · 03/06/2013 21:52

Or maybe Moscow?

PureDeadBrilliant · 03/06/2013 21:55

Oh oh oh! Cumbernauld
So every time anyone asks about the baby you could do the great advert:
"what's it called?"
"Cumbernauld!"

Eriskay? If she wants to stick with the island theme.

Eriska is an island name too - v pretty I think

Theonlyoneiknow · 03/06/2013 23:15

Etive is lovely , I have fond climbing memories of there, I like Alba too but DP says its a make of stereo?

eagleray · 03/06/2013 23:24

Yes it is a stereo, but then I named DD after a brand of dairy product so don't be put off!

AberdeenAngusina · 03/06/2013 23:25

My mum told me about someone who was born in The Sma' Glen. It was a dramatic story, but I can't remember it. She was born in the 1930s. Anyway, she was named Thesma Glen Surname.

greencolorpack · 03/06/2013 23:26

"Corstorphine".

greencolorpack · 03/06/2013 23:28

"Grist Boll". Name of a pub. True story.

Of course you would have to really hate the kid if you called it Grist Boll.

MorrisZapp · 03/06/2013 23:30

Don't forget the three racing champions named after Scottish places:

Stirling Moss

Eddie Irvine

Ayr Toon Centre

Definitely not Twatt

There are lots of Twatts in Orkney and Shetland.

Speaking of which, I have heard of Orkney being used as a name for a boy. Smaller islands in Orkney that could be used as names include Fara, Sanday (pronounced Sandy), Switha or Swona. A non-Orcadian should be able to pronounce all of those more or less properly. Avoid Orkney names that end in 'say' because some of them would be pronounced 'shay' by the natives.
