Love or hate??

OP posts:

FlatsInDagenham · 31/05/2013 00:08

Used to hate - thought it sounded like a cow. But now I know a couple of real life Daisys I like it better. Wouldn't choose it for my DD however, mainly because it doesn't sound like the name of a future prime minister.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2013 00:09

Like it a lot (biased) but would avoid this year because of Gatsby, as I suspect there will be a bit of a rush on it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/05/2013 00:11

I like it but don't think it ages as well as other flower names,Lily or Violet for example. I feel the same about Poppy re not ageing as well as other flower names. Not sure why though.

helloitsme · 31/05/2013 00:16

if i imagined calling a mate of mine (ie an adult) and saying "how are you doing Daisy?" it seems to sound OK to me. I have a family member called Daisy who is 4. It's still working at 4, here's hoping it still works at 44.

IHeartKingThistle · 31/05/2013 00:28

Love it. Love it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/05/2013 00:31

hello - I think in all honesty it's just because I've only ever met very young Daisy's,so I can't quite picture an adult one. I wouldn't head tilt at it though,I do think it's a nice name.

TigOldBitties · 31/05/2013 00:39

I like it a lot, I've known very elderly ladies called Daisy and it suited them fine, just as it does a child.

LittleMissLucy · 31/05/2013 01:22

lovely.

LittleMissLucy · 31/05/2013 01:22

I also know some quite high powered business / media women called Daisy. Its not just for infants/ the elderly...

Gugglebum · 31/05/2013 05:50

Had the same thought about Gatsby, hopefully people aren't in love enough with the character to use it, though. It's lovely. Had a Great Aunt Daisy, who was a feisty wonderful lady.

Lebkuchenlover · 31/05/2013 08:20

I think the recent fashion for cutesy names - poppy, daisy, tilly, milly, etc - will soon come to end. I personally prefer more elegant solid names.

farmersdaughter · 31/05/2013 09:18

It's a perfectly lovely name but a bit to wishy washy for my taste.

HorryIsUpduffed · 31/05/2013 09:37

I know tinies and a thirty-something.

But I really dislike the frilly nicknames trend, so would slightly redundantly put Margaret or Marguerite ::swoon:: on the birth certificate just in case.

NeedSomeSun142 · 31/05/2013 09:42

hmm reminds me of a cow too, along with the name maisy

natandmat · 31/05/2013 10:34

I really love this name, was a very strong contender but 2 things put me off now, firstly the Great Gatsby link I think it will become quite common similar to Bella and Edward from Twilight and secondly the character Daisy in BBC Not Going Out programme!

QuietOldLadyWhisperingHush · 31/05/2013 11:00

I like it! - but I don't love it. I agree with Horry you may want to consider what second names you could pair it with, so there is a choice later on (just in case the name doesn't suit the personality)

Also... have you thought about other plant/tree names (not flowers)? Some of them can be quite pretty but not in a frilly way. Willow, Holly, Ivy, Hazel, etc.

monica77798 · 31/05/2013 11:34

I like Daisy, although Maisie is just as nice and not quite as cow associated.

BabyStone · 31/05/2013 13:39

Im a fan, I intend to use it as a middle name if I have a girl in the future, named after a family member.

Elquota · 31/05/2013 17:20

Lovely name.

Madamecastafiore · 31/05/2013 17:24

Love it.

Said to DS 8 what did he think of it, he replied 'Are you giving birth to a cow?'

Put me in my place (Max is a dogs name so you can't talk DS!)

MrsEllsmore · 31/05/2013 20:58

I used to like it but it is becoming really popular now and will probably get worse because of Gatsby, that said if you don't mind popular names I wouldn't worry.

Turniptwirl · 31/05/2013 23:42

I prefer Maisy but maybe cause I know a not very nice daisy lol

YDdraigGoch · 31/05/2013 23:50

Daisy is actually a nick name for Margaret (Marguerite = Daisy). So why not call her the full name and give her a choice of nn/name when she's older.

harverina · 01/06/2013 00:02

I like daisy but its very popular at the moment which puts me off slightly.

CointreauVersial · 01/06/2013 00:06

Too babyish. Names are for life.....
