The thing with the whole "I can't imagine an adult / lawyer / PM with that name" issue is surely a bit misdirected - by the time a Daisy or Poppy born in 2013 is 45, to her peers it'll be a perfectly normal name for a middle aged lady - doctor, lawyer, shop assistant, whatever. Surely people felt the same in 1981 about the plethora of baby Sarahs and Louises?!

moggle · 01/06/2013 00:10

But I agree there'll be lots of Daisys this year in particular...

CointreauVersial · 01/06/2013 00:23

That's true Moggle.

"I'm going to call my son Kenneth/Nigel/Graham"

"Ooh, no, can't imagine a lawyer/MP/doctor with that name"

LittleMissLucy · 01/06/2013 01:31

Moggle you're right.
Daisy Goodwin - anyone? How successful / taken seriously is she? VERY MUCH.

LittleMissLucy · 01/06/2013 01:32

There is no such thing as a babyish name, only a babyish nickname like

Muppet
or
Poppet
Twinkle-toes
or similar

raisah · 01/06/2013 09:20

Perfect for a 5 year old girl but not for a grown career woman. I would name her Margaret with the nn Daisy so that she has options for when she is older.

EuroShaggleton · 01/06/2013 09:21

Lovely for a child. Can't imagine a bank manager/lawyer/dr called Daisy.

MakeGlutenFreeHay · 01/06/2013 09:30

My brother was going to be a Daisy, but was a boy so the dog got the name instead....it's a bit too pretty for me, but I wouldn't recoil in horror! Grin

missmapp · 01/06/2013 09:33

My 35yr old cousin is Daisy, she is also a very respectable city lawyer.

Themobstersknife · 01/06/2013 09:35

Moggle - you are dead right. I am surprised that so many posters on these threads haven't worked that out yet.

Frikadellen · 01/06/2013 09:37

I neither love or hate for me it is an " oh ok name" goes down with Jane and Anne imo fairly plain.

Picturepuncture · 01/06/2013 09:39

I know a 13 year old Daisy, who's definitely on track for a successful and serious adult proffesion. It suits her.

I wouldn't put Margaret on the BC, it is a different name. Much like if I was naming a 'jack' I wouldn't write 'John' on the BC

Smilehappy · 01/06/2013 09:48

Love love LOVE Thanks

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/06/2013 11:07

I definitely wouldn't put Margaret on the birth certificate. People outside of the family will automatically shorten it the Maggie. It would be the devil's own job getting them to call her Daisy.

Just go with Daisy.

googlyeyes · 01/06/2013 14:43

Love Daisy

I don't think most people would be aware that Daisy was traditionally a nickname for Margaret so it would just cause more hassle putting that down on the birth certificate.

I know many, many Margarets (all 60 plus) and not one of them has ever used the name Daisy. It's been Maggie all the way!

Rtfairy · 01/06/2013 16:06

Love Daisy and will consider as a first name if my baby is a girl

drhw · 02/06/2013 18:10

Well my dd is nearly 2 and is Daisy, I just wanted people's thoughts on it! Lol. I love it!!Grin

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 02/06/2013 18:12

Love.

It wasn't on my list for DD, but the midwife who delivered her kept insisting she should be named after a little flower, because she was so little, and looked like a flower. Confused

Only later did I realise she meant Daisy. It would have suited DD, actually.

CPtart · 02/06/2013 18:58

Hate it

rockybalboa · 02/06/2013 21:13

Love. Love all the flowery names. Which is a shame as I only produce boy children..

sparkle12mar08 · 03/06/2013 18:30

Hate it. Utterly boring, twee, and so overdone.

exoticfruits · 03/06/2013 18:41

I don't love it or hate it. I wouldn't use it but I have no strong feelings- there are flower names that are far worse.
