So, which year's names are least appealing to parents naming in 2013

Is it names that are 50 years old? Or is it less than that? some people were listing names that they couldn't imagine coming back, like Linda and Janet. I don't really dislike those. Jane is nice. Linda is pretty I think.

I think names I'd be really surprised to hear would be Suzanne and Nicola, Martin, Stephen.

Ha my dad is a neil and my mum has made exactly the same comment about looking at a cute baby and thinking. "I know...Neil! "

I love the two generations theory (barring biblical names) and am dying to try it out. Means my dcs children will be called robert, ken, charles, jack, jean (always thougbt that was due a comeback), audrey, elsie, margery

My DP aged 30 is called Martin i hate it.

I can't see names like Pauline, Maureen, Doreen and Barbara coming back into popularity.

I know a few young Jodie's and to my shock some mid 20s Trevor's!

But yes I think the middle aged people names like Beryl, Sue, Carol, Linda etc would be the most strange on a baby. But who knows they may be the Evie's and Arthur's of our children's children's generation!

I don't think Audrey, Gail, Deirdre, or Vera will make a comeback whilst they're still so strongly associated with Corrie. Ditto Ken and Kevin.

To my ears Deirdre is more like Niamh or Maeve, very 70s.

I love Gloria and I like Audrey and Valerie. I know a 7 yr old Slyvie. I also know a teenage Susan who was named after her Grandma - that is very unusual in her age group. Ray made a comeback in the US a few years ago, I like it. I also met a little boy called Ronnie in Bosnia whose parents got his name from an English tourist! So multi-culturalism works in all directions.

I think after all these very sweet cutesy names recently there will be a turn to stronger sounding ones.

I like Valerie but not Val for short

The most horrendous name imo is Keith which I hope and pray never comes back (sorry to offend any Keith's who may be reading this)

I love Audrey, if DS2had been a girl he would have been Audrey. I also love Jean, nn Jeanie but DH vetoed it rather strongly.
My girls are Catherine and Elizabeth. Not sure they've ever been either fashionable or unfashionable. I quite like that.

When I was at high school, Lyn and Leanne were the most popular girls names. There were infinite spelling variations of each - used to drive the teachers bonkers.

A name that has fallen out of a favour but I've always secretly quite liked is Donna. Don't think that's coming back anytime soon. I'm surprised how far Gemma has fallen down the charts; I mean, I went to school with loads of Gemmas but when you consider it objectively it's a nice name (and Emma has retained its popularity so why not Gemma?).

Keith is a truly terrrible name, but I once went out with a Keith and he was very well-endowed so I can't help but smile when I hear it

I love some of these names like Claire, Nicola, Julie, Stephen, David, Robert, Ian, and they don't sound dated to me. Perhaps because they are of my generation and I know many wonderful people that I associate them with. Nigel, Wendy and Norman are a different matter. Also Maureen, jean, Derek, Barry and the like. A colleague has an 11-year old called Brian which makes me wince.

oh dear at giving your son your name when you're called Neil. It's just so Banal. There was a guy on come dine with me recently and the narrator was taking the piss because his name was Martin and he'd seen fit to pass that mediocrity on to another generation in the form of Martin junior. It was funny!
