itsnothingoriginal · 15/05/2013 10:38

A good MN sibling combo would be along the lines of Ottillie for a girl and Atticus for a boy Grin

I have to be honest and say that on the whole, MNetters are the the ultimate purveyors of taste when it comes to baby names!

peanutMD · 15/05/2013 10:42

normally something rediculously old fashioned and fugly to those who are not eccentric middle class types, but it takes all sorts :o

dopeysheep · 15/05/2013 10:44

Martha and Arthur.
And Elodie.

squoosh · 15/05/2013 10:45

This is the only place in the world where I've seen 'Beryl? Lovely name'.

EcoRI · 15/05/2013 10:48

Oscar and Felix. Both nice names but a bit yawntastic these days.

Catlike · 15/05/2013 19:26

It's interesting that you don't have a problem saying that you see middle class names as "rediculously old fashioned and fugly" peanut.

Tbh that's the reaction I'd expect from most working class people I know (that includes my own and DH's extended families before anyone accuses me of hateful stereotyping btw).

No compunction about saying how awful the offending name sounds to their ears and often a comment about how "posh" it is as if that is automatically a bad thing. Poshness tends to be openly mocked among the working classes. Not a bad thing or a big deal! It just reflects that different demographics do tend to have very different tastes.

Yet it's completely unacceptable to say on mumsnet that you don't like obviously working class names like Jayden/Brayden/Kayden etc. Even if they are completely at odds with your own idea of what's aesthetically pleasing - which is to be expected if "fugly" names like Hector and Aurelia are more your cup of tea.

farmersdaughter · 15/05/2013 19:28

Fugly...Biscuit

usualsuspect · 15/05/2013 19:34

It's always been the norm to ridicule Names like Jayden etc on MN

usualsuspect · 15/05/2013 19:37

And lol at Beryl, that is one fugly name.

FatimaLovesBread · 15/05/2013 19:38

Mabel and Duncan

Catlike · 15/05/2013 19:47

People may ridicule them but they always get slapped down pretty quickly usual suspect.

Somehow I don't think that would happen if people on a less middle class forum were taking the piss out of posh names. No big deal, I have a foot in both camps and don't care either way.

Just think it's funny that people get so outraged about name mockery on a generally fairly middle class site when the "Jayden" demographic probably wouldn't give a monkeys if it was the other way around.
