Thinking a lot about baby names for a potential baby number 3. This is what we have come up with so far:

Beatrix
Merryn
Florence
Matilda
Tabitha
Penelope (Penny)

Edward
Felix
Xavier
Alexander (Xander)
Henry

Dd called Felicity and Ds called Benjamin

Thanks

What's your definition of unpopular? I know quite a few with those names, except Merryn and Penelope.

I love Penelope.

ladymia · 14/03/2013 21:21

Unpopular?

Shr0edinger · 14/03/2013 21:21

um, all of those names are either popular or on the rise!

I think you need to look at the statistics. There are some great websites.

I like Merrin and Felix though. Felix is probably on the downward curve now!?

Bowlersarm · 14/03/2013 21:23

Beatrix Florence Matilda Edward Alexander and Henry , I would say, are all very popular!

scaevola · 14/03/2013 21:25

I think most of those are in frequent use, except Merryn and Penelope.

Are you after comments on your list (most of which are lovely names), or more suggestions?

lottiegarbanzo · 14/03/2013 21:29

Unpopular? You have some of the most popular names amongst babies I've encountered on there.

bassingtonffrench · 14/03/2013 21:30

the names you list are popular names mostly! or at least up and coming

if you are looking for traditional but unpopular try

Phillip
Steven
Paul
John

Linda
Jane
Mary
Anne

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 14/03/2013 21:41

Yes, what counts as unpopular? I would say anything outside the top 100, and of your list, off the top of my head, Alexander, Edward and Felix are all top 30 and Florence, Matilda and Henry are all top 50 or thereabouts. The rest of your list, whilst they may be popular in Mumsnet circles, are all outside the top one hundred. Of your existing kids names, Felicity is about no. 180 if memory serves me correctly, whilst Benjamin is top 30. (Yes, I'm a baby name geek).

With your existing kids names, I like Edward and Alexander, and Beatrix and Matilda, as I think they offer contrast.

IamthegreatProcrastinator · 14/03/2013 21:42

I love Merryn!

lottiegarbanzo · 14/03/2013 21:44

If you wan unpopular, try Margaret, Stephen and Michael.

TiredyCustards · 14/03/2013 21:46

Mary is sweet. Margot, Cissy, Rita, Peggy.

Boys - Billy, Christopher, Peter

smegley · 14/03/2013 21:47

my son is called Ted, traditional but its not popular.
I think the trick is to just pick a name you really like, name trends come and go.

MargaretsMum · 14/03/2013 21:48

Stop it with the Margaret people. It's coming up far too often on these boards. Damn it, it's my unpopular baby name Grin

TenthMuse · 14/03/2013 21:56

As others have said, many of these are far from unpopular! Do like most of them though - love Merryn and Tabitha and all your boys' names are good.

Rhubarbgarden · 14/03/2013 22:17

How about:
Richard
Sylvester
Dominic
Jonathan

Naomi
Laura
Helen
Victoria

SherbetDibDab · 14/03/2013 22:19

marjorie

Shr0edinger · 14/03/2013 22:21

I like Margaret
Marjorie is yucky though. Like Margarine.

Shr0edinger · 14/03/2013 22:22

Dominic and Jonathan good suggestions! I also like Robert. How popular is that? I don't know any children called Robert, but it's still a good solid name that would work.

Shr0edinger · 14/03/2013 22:23

Jane is nice! not ready for Linda but Belinda Jane would be fabulous

poppydaisy · 15/03/2013 10:47

Agree that most of the names in the op are quite 'fashionable' - the most classic timeless, untrendy, names are Felicity and Merryn - love them both!

How about
Michael
Peter
Robert
Quentin
Benedict
Paul
Patrick

Elisabeth
Susanna
Helena
Francesca
Allanah
Charlotte

All solid, classic timeless names imo.

peeriebear · 15/03/2013 10:52

Wasn't Henry in the top spot in 2012?

laughalot · 15/03/2013 10:53

annabella, mabel, helena, anna, claire, alice, hattie, tabatha, michaela, esme

rory, tom, james, jamie, ryan, matthew, alex, owen, charles, beth

LulaPalooza · 15/03/2013 10:54

If you already have a DD called Felicity would it not be slightly odd to have a DS called Felix?

mewkins · 15/03/2013 20:23

Margaret? You would do that to a child???

Kathryn ( no need to shorten to Katie) although K-Mid probably means it's on the rise)

Iris, Evelyn, Susannah, Angela, Christina

David, Stewart, Stephen, Peter, Owen

Shr0edinger · 15/03/2013 20:50

Margaret is just about five years away from coming back into fashion, so it's hardly something bad that you'd do to a child. I nearly called my daughter Margaret.
