Thinking a lot about baby names for a potential baby number 3. This is what we have come up with so far:

Beatrix
Merryn
Florence
Matilda
Tabitha
Penelope (Penny)

Edward
Felix
Xavier
Alexander (Xander)
Henry

Dd called Felicity and Ds called Benjamin

Thanks

My dd is called Nancy. If we have a dd2 me and dh want to call her Ida

MargaretsMum · 15/03/2013 21:07

Shr0- stop it, stop it. I was promised when I named DD that enough people felt like mewkins that it was safe from a surge. It's a bloody brilliant name though. Absolutely love it.

mewkins · 15/03/2013 21:19

Maybe it just reminds me of someone I don't like very much... but a very good friend has it as a middle name and is embarrassed by it to be quite frank.

MargaretsMum · 15/03/2013 21:25

Ah, the Thatcher thing. I'm no fan either, but practically every family has a Margaret around that generation. It's not like it's Adolf . In real life it seems far more likely to remind someone of an aunt or a grandma.

To be quite frank, I'd be embarrassed by some of the names people choose on here and are met with rapturous responses, but it's just personal taste. Just like I can't stand certain tv programmes, or drinks, or foods, or music which others love. And I suspect that they can't stand some things I adore. Just because a friend is embarrassed doesn't make it an embarrassing name.

Shr0edinger · 15/03/2013 21:34

Sorry Margaretsmum! Actually, it's like, todally eeeeooooow Wink

I'm a Lois! Unusual but not 'out there'.

MonsterScout · 16/03/2013 15:44

Lois, Mary and Felicity as suggested above are all gorgeous. Slightly less popular than Matilda, Tabitha, Florence in my neck of the woods:

Cora
Clara
Margaret or Marguerite
Esther
Ida
Marianne
Josephine
Frances
Stella
Selma
Christina
Susannah
Corinne
Tess
Sylvia
Sadie
Lillian
Una
Faye
Anastasia

Or there are names you just dont hear anymore at all:

Anita
Annette
Ruth
Gladys
Sally
Wendy
Jean
Joan
Cynthia
Janice / Janet
Paula

Maybe for a reason ;-)

Viviennemary · 16/03/2013 16:35

I'm not keen on Margaret. It was even old fashioned when I was a child.

bassingtonffrench · 16/03/2013 20:32

I'm loving your list MonsterScout

Minty82 · 16/03/2013 20:39

Oh no, will you stop all suggesting Susannah?! I've got that lined up for theoretical DD2...

Choccybaby · 16/03/2013 20:43

if you want unusual but traditional how about something old english like oswin or edric?

Or what about:

Margot

Helen
Victoria
Susannah
Clare
Alison
Ruth
Miranda

Alastair

WormCanner · 18/03/2013 23:42

Deborah and Joanna not classic? They are Biblical names which surely gives them classic status.

MidnightMasquerader · 19/03/2013 04:00

No, it gives them cyclical status. Old, but come in and out of fashion. Nobody's calling their babies those names now...

Margaret is definitely going to be on the rise in another 5-10 years.
