On Child of Our Timethey were pronouncing it to rhyme with Alison. That's the only time I'd heard the name

This is my Welsh friend's son's name and they pronounce it Tally-ESS-un.

Gwennan has it right - it is Tal-YES-in. Tally-ess-in is like pronouncing Pontypandy as Pontee-pandy .

With the 'YES' in the middle said in the same way as 'yes'? It sounds odd said that way to my English ear....or perhaps it's just my accent

Frigg - I think what you've said about over and under-pronounciation is spot on. The 'yes' is just as you would say it in English.

It is a great name however it is pronounced :)

I really like Tal-ee-es-in,and Tal-es-in...both roll nicely off my tongue.
It seems like Tal-ee-es-in is at least the correct pronunciation in some parts...

Gwennan has the right of it. Tal-yes-in. Think of the 'ie' being pronounced the same as in Ieuan.

i would have said Tal-ee-san

Taliesin was a sixteenth century Welsh poet (male). Tal yes in is correct welsh pronunciation. Tall ee esin would be an anglicised pronunciation, where the speaker is unaware of the sound 'y' makes in Welsh. ( it's a kind of ur' sound)
