After reading this thread I am seriously contemplating Alexander and Atticus if the twins are boys!! I love the books and names suggested here.

Just curious, are there any Paulines, Petrovas and Posys as in Ballet Shoes?

Hethersett of course! Although I'm very fond of the Merivale version too. :)

Gideon is of course after the dreamy Captain Gideon in The Foundling. He REALLY deserved his own book!

Yes, The Odd Couple..! I'd never heard of it either. It's either that it asking why I've named them after cats.
DS3 is Charlie, after Charlie Brooker. Slightly less legendary but literary nevertheless.

DD's middle name is Scout. Her first name is the female in Oliver Twist, but not named after her.

Love Atticus (and Jeremy!) for a boy but think it might be a bit much. Also love Ophelia for a girl.

My elder boy (Felix) started making fun of the younger (Oscar) the other night for being named after a dog food. Which was kind of ironic really. Poor thing.

I really want a Marianne, as in Sense & Sensibility (and the Leonard Cohen song) but I'm not allowed one. Pout.

I'm thrilled to hear that other people love The Diddakoi! I did briefly try to dangle Kezia in front of DH (it's biblical!) but he wouldn't even contemplate it...

Darrawan
Mergolan
Tallarras

are the characters in the novel I will never write, if anyone's remotely interested.

1944girl I love The Cruel Sea. It's still on the tv on Sunday afternoons occasionally.

I've always been a bit surprised that I wasn't named after Katherine actually as my grandmother (who named and raised me) was a HUGE fan of Anya Seton's book and Katherine Swynford is my great x bazillion grandmother.

DS was very nearly Titus (from Gormenghast) but in the end he just didn't look like a Titus.

Apparently DH was a whisker away from being named Gawain.

For DC2 I am seriously considering Beren (Tolkien) or a name that can be shortened to Tolly (I don't think I could stretch to Toseland). Linnet is also a definite option for a girl.

LineRunner is your novel set in Cornwall? Those names scream Kernewek to me.

I've always wanted to call a future daughter Kestrel after the heroine in The Wind on Fire trilogy, absolutely love it!! And like Kess as a nn. But doubt I'll be able to wangle that one.

Also think Sherlock would be a fabulous middle name Grin

DD would have been Atticus had she been a boy. Her middle name is Harriet. It's tenuous enough that H doesn't realise that's after a book character, and you'll probably only guess if I tell you that the dog is called Sirius...

I've got a Flora after Flora Post in Cold Comfort Farm. I'm hoping she'll be able to knock sense into our family once she grows up. :-)

My DD is Meg (Little Women), and has a literary MN Alice too.

I would like to continue the theme.

We've just had ds2 on sat and called her lyra after my great grandmother. Didn't know the literary connection til a midwife mentioned it. Though to be fair gg's name was spelt leirah but we felt the pronunciation would cause probs and ds1 (Freya) would struggle to get it right. We thought we'd picked an unusual name it looks like it will get popular now :-/

Edmund - another Narnia groupie, although other literature minded members of the family did object as the Edmund in King Lear is a baddy - a bit of a sexy baddy however. More exciting than Edgar. Edmund Pevensie isn't exactly a hero either.
